ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, COMMERCIAL CRM LEAD
SUMMARY:
The Assistant Director, Commercial CRM Lead will serve as the owner and strategic driver of the Veeva Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platform across Ionis' U.S. Commercial organization. This role is critical in enabling compliant, data-driven, and highly functional engagement capabilities for field teams and headquarters users. The successful candidate will partner across Sales, Marketing, Patient Services, Market Access, Compliance, IT, and Data & Analytics to optimize CRM configuration, usability, and integration with commercial workflows.
As Ionis prepares for product launches and field force expansion, this individual will ensure our CRM platform scales to meet evolving business needs, enhances customer engagement, and empowers field teams with actionable insights.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
CRM Strategy & Ownership
- Serve as the business owner for Veeva CRM across all brands, responsible for the design, optimization, and deployment of all commercial CRM capabilities.
- Partnering with Brand teams and IT to ensure RTEs and CLM content is pushed out and implemented into CRM.
- Build and collaborate on the FRM CRM platform for the sHTG team
- Collaborate with stakeholders to develop CRM roadmaps aligned to commercial priorities, launch timelines, and compliance standards.
- Ensure CRM design supports omnichannel orchestration, content delivery, KOL engagement tracking, and territory-level visibility.
Cross-Functional Partnership & Governance
- Partner with IT, Sales Leadership, Marketing, Patient Services, Compliance, and Medical to gather requirements, prioritize enhancements, and manage stakeholder input.
- Co-lead the Commercial CRM governance process, ensuring alignment between business objectives and technical execution.
- Act as a liaison to IT and external vendors to manage CRM integrations, system upgrades, and issue resolution.
User Enablement & Field Support
- Develop and maintain CRM onboarding programs, job aids, and training resources to drive adoption and effective usage across field teams.
- Lead workshops and listening sessions with field users to gather feedback and continuously improve user experience.
- Proactively monitor system performance and usage metrics to identify improvement opportunities and close enablement gaps.
Launch Readiness & Scalability
- Lead CRM strategy and configuration for new product launches, including territory alignments, brand content, call activity workflows, and access programs.
- Ensure seamless integration of CRM with data warehouses, reporting platforms, and omnichannel systems to support customer engagement and field insights.
- Partner with compliance to ensure system design meets all regulatory requirements for promotional and non-promotional activities.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree (MBA, MS) preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in commercial operations, CRM administration, or field enablement within the biotech/pharmaceutical industry.
- Strong experience with Veeva CRM capabilities (HCP/Account Profile, Interactions, Approved Email, CLM) Recognized internally as SME - may direct the activities of others
- Demonstrated success launching or scaling CRM capabilities in a commercial launch or growth-stage environment.
- Understanding of pharmaceutical field team workflows across Sales, Market Access, and Patient Services.
- Experience collaborating in a matrixed, cross-functional team environment.
- Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and CRM reporting tools; familiarity with data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Qlik, Power BI) a plus.
- Excellent communication, project management, and problem-solving skills with a strong customer-first mindset.

The pay scale for this position is $101,031 to $150,000
