Job Title: Tournament Director
Reports to: Executive Director
Status: Full-time
Location: Little Rock, Arkansas
Position Summary
The Tournament Director is responsible for the successful planning and execution of Arkansas State Golf Association (ASGA) tournaments and USGA-managed events in Arkansas. This role requires deep knowledge of the Rules of Golf, hands-on tournament operations experience, and the ability to manage all phases of competition - before, during, and after events. The Tournament Director must be comfortable with travel, weekend work, and physical activity including lifting up to 50 pounds.
Experience Required
Qualifications
Minimum three (3) years of tournament administration and/or competitive playing experience at the state, regional, or national level.
Actively working toward passing the USGA Rules of Golf exam.
Advanced knowledge of tournament management systems (Golf Genius preferred).
Competence in financial management including budget oversight.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Personal Characteristics
Team-oriented, with the ability to work effectively and cooperatively in a small staff environment.
Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
Willingness to “wear multiple hats” by stepping into different roles and helping wherever needed across the organization.
Ability to manage multiple projects, delegate tasks, and work independently or with committees.
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required.
Essential Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Serve as Staff in Charge (SIC) or support staff at assigned championships and qualifying events.
Manage pre-event logistics, including coordination with host clubs and participant communications.
Administer tournament signups and player management through tournament software.
Oversee or assist with on-site tournament operations, including: Golf Course Setup: Marking, tee and hole locations, signage, starting, and scoring logistics.
Player Coordination: Providing rulings, enforcing pace of play, and ensuring effective communication.
Volunteer Management: Recruiting, training, scheduling, and communicating with volunteers.
Support the site selection process for ASGA and USGA events by evaluating venues and working with club partners.
Monitor and manage event expenses to ensure compliance with budget guidelines.
Build and maintain strong relationships with host clubs and stakeholders.
Attract new sponsors/donors and maintain relationships with tournament supporters.
Collaborate with staff on how to grow revenue streams for the association.
Contribute to special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
