Position Summary
The South Salt Lake Arts Council Executive Director provides leadership to advance the mission of the Arts Council, which is to unite the community through art and culture. The Executive Director ensures continued growth and success while upholding core values. This role includes leading fundraising and community relations, directing staff, and supervising finances and managing the facilities used by the Arts Council.
The South Salt Lake Executive Arts Director supports the South Salt Lake Arts Council under the direction of its Board of Directors and its president, the South Salt Lake Mayor. The South Salt Lake Arts Council is a 501(c)(3) and a subsidiary of the City of South Salt Lake. The Council staff is housed within the city's Department of Neighborhoods and is supported by city administrative services including legal, finance and IT.

Essential Responsibilities And Duties
Leads, directs and implements the mission of the South Salt Lake Arts Council.
Provides support to the Arts Council Board of Directors and abides by the Board's bylaws.
Develops and implements the Strategic Plan as directed by the Board of Directors.
Maintains the Arts Council's non-profit status, fundraising permissions, and compliance.
Conducts all business at the highest standard of integrity, ensuring that all activities are legal and ethical.
Manages staff and supervises daily operations.
Leads Arts Council fundraising and advancement.
Directs ongoing fundraising and leads special efforts, such as capital campaigns.
Researches funding opportunities and writes grants and funding proposals.
Prepares grant reports and required documents.
Manages donor and funder relationships.
Manages Fiscal Oversight
Manages the budget and finances.
Implements long-range budget strategies developed by the Board of Directors.
Develops an annual budget for approval by the Board. Coordinates city budget allocation to the Council for approval by Mayor and City Council.
Oversees management of funds in coordination with the city's finance department.
Develops and manages arts programs.
Develops and implements art projects and programs that are consistent with the Council's mission and meet the needs of the community.
Manages and supervises the work of support personnel, volunteers, and hired professionals who provide programs.
Maintains program budgets and records on expenses, enrollment and outcomes.
Analyzes effectiveness of program goals and objectives on an annual basis.
Shares responsibility for staffing community art center hours and special events.
Leads community public art program and interacts with business and property owners to find locations for public art.
Leads arts and cultural enrichment activities and education.
Develops and guides community arts events in collaboration with city and Redevelopment Agency.
Motivates and develops a professional network of volunteers and partner organizations.
Leads Arts Council communications and community relations.
Creates marketing materials for promoting classes, activities and events and writes copy for e-newsletter, website, print, and social media.
Promotes programs and activities through Council website, print, social media, and in-person events.
Coordinates with city and Redevelopment Agency on communications and marketing.
Develops effective working relationships with the arts community, local artists and creative industries.
Ensures the arts are represented in the community at large and are representative of the community's diverse population.
Supports activities that lead to greater awareness of the arts and its impact on the community.
Serves as the spokesperson for the Arts Council and represents the arts within the community.
Communicates the value of the arts in improving quality of life, economic growth and personal health.
Guides major Arts Council Initiatives and Partnerships.
Mural Fest, Craftoberfest, and Celebrate South Salt Lake.
South Salt Lake's Creative Industries Zone and creators.
Partner activities and events, such as Get to the River Festival.
Arts Center at the city's Historic Scott School Community Center.
Preserving and celebrating the city's culture and history.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree (minimum).
Experience in leadership, financial management and staff oversight.
Experience in non-profits in the realm of arts, education and human services is beneficial.
Experience working with a diversity of ages, cultures and languages is beneficial.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

Knowledge of program management and operations.
Knowledge of non-profit accounting and financial reporting.
Skill in leadership and strategic planning.
Skill in fundraising and donor cultivation and management.

Skill in community engagement and relationship building.
Skill in marketing and outreach tools and techniques.
Skill in task prioritizing and time management.
Skill in communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Skill in supervising people and ensuring successful completion of requests.
Skill in interacting and supporting a diverse community from a wide variety of backgrounds while displaying cultural competency, patience and good customer service.
Skill in creative problem solving and using good judgment in decision making.
Skill in word processing, spreadsheets, graphic design, desktop publishing and website design.
Skill in using office equipment and operating computers and mobile devices.
Ability to work independently, self-directed and with a positive attitude.
Ability to work as a team member in a fast-paced creative environment.
Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
