Overview As the Area Sales Director , you will direct and oversee all sales activities carried out by the field sales representatives and Sales Managers. You will develop strategic plans to meet corporate targets, develop relationships with clients, and evaluate costs (P&L) for selling products and services. This role blends sales strategy with leading people to inspire and hold the sales teams accountable for meeting sales objectives. Bunzl's product mix includes disposable items such as paper products, packaging, janitorial supplies, safety, sanitation, and food service items. As part of our Redistribution/R3 segment, your team’s customer base could include hotels, distributors, restaurants, and resorts.
This role will lead our R3 sales team in the West, specifically Central and Southern California. Ideal candidates will be local to Los Angeles, CA and work onsite at our LA office unless regional travel with internal stakeholders, the sales team, or customers is required. Residence/hybrid candidates within the geography will be considered.
Responsibilities Responsible and accountable for the continuous daily pursuit of major prospective customers
Collaborate on major account activities with assigned representatives to increase/maintain volume and product penetration
Communicate all customer feedback to leadership on product feedback and future opportunities
Lead regular team and cross-functional meetings to discuss ideas for growing sales revenue and margin
Responsible for day-to-day sales activity and achievement of revenue goals
Manage and deliver sales pipelines, forecasts, pricing and related activities
Review and monitor weekly and monthly forecasts
Manage and execute sales processes and procedures
Manage P&L, and prepare sales revenue and expense budgets
Assist in managing organizational change and culture development
Manage sales teams through CRM data to evaluate performance and maximize group sales effectiveness; ensure prospecting, account development, site inspections, and proper account management practices meet company standards
Drive team performance to consistently meet and exceed sales goals
Implement directives from leadership
Proactively develop a world-class sales force through recruiting, selecting and growing exceptional sales talent, coaching performance, and accountability
Facilitate leadership development within the team and identify future leaders to support succession plans
Establish and maintain strong relationships with current and prospective customer account leaders to grow market share
Prioritize the customer experience in all activity
Drive alignment, define performance measurements, and develop long-term development plans with sales managers and teams
Develop business plans with new and existing accounts
Requirements High School diploma or GED required
Bachelor's degree strongly preferred
Minimum of 5 years of sales leadership experience with a proven track record in competitive markets and 2 years in a people leadership role
Experience managing challenging sales cycles, building yearly plans, and delivering revenue, margin, and cost targets
Grocery, foodservice, hotel/hospitality distribution experience preferred
Excellent organizational and project management skills, including ability to execute multiple initiatives autonomously
Strong leadership skills with the ability to articulate ideas, delegate, direct, motivate and train staff
Ability to close deals and mentor teams to achieve targets
Excellent PC skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, CRM (Microsoft Dynamics) and ability to learn new applications
Travel throughout the region is required; in-person with each Sales Manager as needed but no less than monthly
Flexibility to frequently travel throughout the continental U.S.
Salary Range: $125-185K base (+ bonus and car allowance) determined by experience, education, and market data in the geographic location.
