Wood Glen Senior Living, a distinguished stand-alone non-profit organization founded in 1957 by Aileen and Adrian Wood, is currently seeking a seasoned professional Life Enrichment Director that is energetic, organized, creative and loves working with seniors in a positive and team spirited community. Located in the heart of Santa Barbara, Wood Glen offers a warm and inviting environment for independent and assisted living, embodying the founders' vision of providing an ideal, non-institutional home for the aging population at minimum cost.
GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Life Enrichment Director plays a vital leadership role in promoting the overall well-being of residents by developing and coordinating meaningful life enrichment programming. This role is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing programs that support residents' physical, emotional, cognitive, social, and spiritual wellness. Programming includes on-site and off-site events and outings, educational and cultural offerings, fitness and wellness classes, volunteer engagement, and seasonal celebrations. The Life Enrichment Director works closely with the Executive Director, other departments and residents to foster a vibrant, inclusive, and engaging community atmosphere.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Plan, develop, and implement a weekly/monthly calendar of events and activities tailored to resident preferences and abilities.
Coordinate and lead social, recreational, educational, spiritual, and cultural programs for both Independent and Assisted Living residents.
Organize group outings and off-site trips (e.g., shopping, entertainment, dining, and nature).
Promote and support resident-led activities to encourage independence and expression.
Oversee the planning and execution of special events and holiday celebrations.
Partner with outside organizations and community resources to bring enriching experiences on-site. Help to develop a volunteer program and support community outreach.
Manage and maintain an inventory of supplies, games, crafts, and activity equipment.
Develop and maintain relationships with local volunteers, performers, and service groups.
Create and distribute newsletters, weekly calendars, and other communication materials related to life enrichment programming.
Support fitness/wellness programs in collaboration with internal or contracted providers.
Coordinate with Culinary, Maintenance, and other departments to ensure seamless execution of events.
Provide training and support to staff on engagement best practices and person-centered care approaches.
Supervise departmental staff, including Life Enrichment Coordinators, Concierge, Fitness, and Transportation team members (if applicable).
Complete performance evaluations, provide coaching and mentorship, and oversee daily assignments.
Ensure all activities meet regulatory compliance and documentation standards; track resident participation.
Serve as an active member of interdisciplinary team meetings, including care plan and assessment reviews.
Assist with tours and community marketing efforts as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate degree required; Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Gerontology, Psychology, Social Work, or related field preferred.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in activity planning, event coordination, or life enrichment programming.
Experience working in a senior living, healthcare, or regulated setting strongly preferred.
Prior supervisory experience and staff development skills desirable.
Experience with volunteer recruitment and program development preferred.
Activity Director certification preferred (or willingness to obtain in designated timeframe).
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Ability to engage effectively with residents, staff, families, and external partners.
Creative thinker with the ability to develop inclusive, person-centered programming.
Able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines with minimal supervision.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS :
Ability to sit, stand, and walk for prolonged periods.
Must be able to lift or carry up to 25-50 pounds.
Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, and balancing throughout the day.
Manual dexterity to operate standard office and activity-related equipment.
Frequent interaction with residents, staff, families, and outside vendors.
May require occasional evening, weekend, or holiday hours for events and programs.
Works in both indoor and outdoor environments.

Pay: $28.00 - $33.00 per hour
