Job Details Job Location 0178 Holy Redeemer Parish, Vancouver - Vancouver, WA Position Type Part Time Salary Range 28.85 - $38.46 Hourly Description Holy Redeemer Parish is seeking a part-time Director of Sacred Music. Our ideal candidate would have a deep love for the heritage and history of Sacred Music in the Catholic Church, with an appreciation and understanding of reverence and sacredness in the Mass. This person will oversee liturgical music at Holy Redeemer, St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in Camas, and Star of the Sea Mission in Stevenson, even when not present during Mass. The director will lead all three choirs at Holy Redeemer, oversee sacred music for Holy Redeemer and St. Thomas Parishes, and coordinate with the choir at Star of the Sea Mission. Responsibilities: Use the St. Michael Hymnal and Lumen Christi Missals. Sing the Entrance, Offertory, and Communion antiphons in Latin. Maintain the same repertoire for both parishes with one rehearsal per week. Select and coordinate music for liturgical celebrations, including Sunday Masses, Holy Days, and special events like funerals and weddings. Recruit, hire, train, and lead volunteer vocal musicians; integrate paid section leaders and accompanists. Transition from the Graduale Simplex to English Propers, with potential development of Gregorian Propers for some Masses. Be familiar with Gregorian and English chant resources and performance. Understand the Missal Chants of the Third Edition of the Roman Missal, the GIRM, and current Sacred Music documents. Proficient in choral conducting; capable of training choirs and conducting while playing piano or organ. Arrange music to meet the needs of choirs and instrumentalists. Proficient in organ playing, including hymnody, solo repertoire, and improvisation within liturgy. Qualifications: Be a practicing Catholic. Experience with the St. Michael Hymnal and Lumen Christi Missals. Experience singing Latin antiphons in Mass. Experience in selecting and coordinating liturgical music. Experience in recruiting, hiring, and leading volunteer and paid musicians. Transitioning from Graduale Propers to English Propers. Familiarity with Gregorian and English chant resources. Knowledge of the Roman Missal Third Edition, GIRM, and Sacred Music standards. Proficiency in choral conducting and training. Ability to arrange music for choirs and instrumentalists. Proficiency in organ performance and improvisation. Salary is determined based on internal equity, market data, applicant skills and experience, and relevant degrees and certifications.
