Title: Water Resource Director – Public Agency
Compensation: $145,000 – $155,000/year (based on experience)
Schedule:
Full-time, Monday – Friday
Some evening or weekend meetings may be required
Location: Remote / Regional
Position Summary:
A public agency is seeking a Water Resource Director to oversee strategic planning, management, and sustainability of water resources. This leadership role directs operations, ensures regulatory compliance, and advances initiatives that secure long-term water quality, availability, and conservation. The ideal candidate is a visionary leader with technical expertise, proven management skills, and a strong commitment to environmental stewardship.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead planning, development, and operation of surface water resources, treatment facilities, and distribution systems
- Develop and implement long-term water supply and conservation strategies
- Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations
- Oversee departmental budgets, capital improvement planning, and financial performance
- Provide leadership and mentoring to multidisciplinary teams, including engineers and technical staff
- Conduct quality control and review of hydraulic and hydrologic models, floodplain mapping, and watershed planning
- Engage stakeholders and regional partners to advance water resource management initiatives
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Hydrology, or related field (Master’s preferred)
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required
- Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) required or ability to obtain within six months
- 10+ years of progressive experience in water resources management or related field
- Proven leadership, project management, and client/stakeholder engagement skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
Compensation & Incentives:
- Salary range: $145,000 – $155,000 annually (based on experience)
