Explore our benefits. About the Role VCU School of Pharmacy invites you to apply to the Director of Student of Success role. The Director of Student Success plays a pivotal role in shaping a supportive and thriving academic environment for all students. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Student Success, this leadership position oversees day-to-day operations of Student Success (OASS) and closely works with Office of Admissions, ensuring that services are delivered in full alignment with university policies and standards. The director will lead the development and implementation of student services policies, and design inclusive programming that promotes academic enrichment, professional development, and holistic support for undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. In partnership with the Associate Dean and school leadership, the Director will actively contribute to the creation and evaluation of strategic initiatives aimed at advancing student achievement and well-being across the university. Key Responsibilities The following areas are of utmost importance for this position: Student Retention and Progression – In collaboration with the Associate Dean for Student Success, the director will be responsible for implementing, evaluating and presenting student retention practices across all School of Pharmacy programs. Student Services – The director will be responsible for planning, developing and general oversight of student services programs and operations that facilitate student success. This includes things such as early alerts/progress reports, excused absences, academic probation and academic warning advising campaigns, and academic progression requirements. Job Placement Coordination – The director will track job placement for graduating students and, in coordination with the School of Pharmacy technology department and the Student Success Program Coordinator, create and manage a “job board” that houses active pharmacist positions across Virginia and abroad. Event Management – The director, in collaboration with the Associate Dean of Student Success and the Office of Admissions and Student Success team, will be responsible for planning, executing and evaluating schoolwide student events such as Graduation & Hooding Ceremony, P1 Orientation, P4 On-Campus Day, Career Fair, Internship Fair, White Coat Ceremony, and other student events as needed. Supervision – The director will be responsible for supervising student success team members. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Master’s degree with equivalent combination of training or experience in higher education or equivalent field. Demonstrated strength in student engagement, including at least 5 years of advising or other significant student interaction/mentoring at the university level. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a welcoming faculty, staff and student environment. Experience working in a high volume academic unit. Excellent administrative and organizational skills, including the ability to identify and resolve complex administrative problems. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks with competing deadlines. Confidence with data extraction and dissemination. Demonstrated experience in problem solving, critical thinking, student success and program evaluation. Demonstrated experience working with internal and external stakeholders to provide holistic student success from admissions to graduation and beyond. Demonstrated experience with platforms like EAB Navigate, Canvas, Banner, Google Drive ( Docs, Forms and Sheets), and Mailmerge Platforms. Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU. Preferred Qualifications 7 years of academic advising or academic/student success administrative experience. Supervisory experience. Experience working at a large, urban, research university. Comprehensive knowledge of enrollment, recruitment, retention and student success approaches and issues in higher education and professional education. Familiarity with common student needs and concerns in health care/pharmacy programs.
