COMPENSATION: $60,000 – $70,000 per year

Wayne-Westland Community Schools is located in the metropolitan Detroit area, between Ann Arbor and Detroit. Our staff provides the very best educational opportunities for approx. 10,000 students from Westland, Wayne, Canton, Livonia, Garden City, Dearborn Heights, Inkster, and Romulus. The Wayne-Westland Community School district is comprised of ten elementary schools (K-5), three middle schools (6-8), and two high schools (9-12). We also have an early childhood center, an ultra-modern facility for career/technical training, an alternative high school, and a thriving online program.

Instituted in 1983 – Upward Bound is a college preparation program funded by the United States Department of Education located at Wayne Memorial High School
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: other duties may be assigned
Develop and implement an innovative academic year program and six week summer component
Develop and oversee ongoing parent component with activities, in-services, and support services
Maintain program budgets and complete monthly, quarterly and annual reports
Responsible for implementation of the program including program recruitment, post secondary application process, scholarship applications, extended school year programming, and informational parent meetings
Plan and facilitate the operation of student campus visitation and enrichment activities
Provide hardware and software instruction and technical support, maintaining the technology inventory
Lead the program evaluation through follow-up surveys and participant tracking
Review student records to determine program participant’s eligibility, honors, and scholarship eligibility and status in the program
Make technology purchases during the grant cycle
Develop and monitor objectives and provide performance reports to Wayne-Westland Community Schools and the US Dept. of Education
Monitor community service projects
Perform related duties as assigned
Regular and predictable attendance
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university
Knowledge of and/or experience in TRIO Programs preferred
Prior secondary school experience
Ability to design, implement, and evaluate Federal Programs
Experience in program administration, working knowledge of curriculum planning and development
Experience/knowledge of Financial Aid/Scholarships, and post-secondary requirements
Experience with testing and needs assessment measures
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Must be eligible to work in the United States
Demonstrate ability to work with low income, first generation high school students
Excellent organizational, communication, planning, and writing skills
Enthusiasm and willingness to work in unique, non-traditional setting
Ability to communicate effectively with staff
Ability to work flexible hours
Knowledge of Zangle IT system and other technology
Knowledge of or prior experience working with TRIO Programs
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
This person must be able to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time and must be able to move about the classroom, building, etc. as needed. This person must be able to communicate with students, parents, other teachers and administrators and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee is frequently required to interact with students, staff and occasionally with the public. This employee is directly responsible for the safety and well-being of students.
EVALUATION:
Job performance is evaluated by a building administrator in accordance with district guidelines and the applicable collective bargaining language.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Compensation, length of the work day and number of work days is based on the Special Projects Pay Scale. This position often requires evening, weekend and summer hours based on program needs and availability of grant funding.
