Essential Duties & Responsibilities Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines for the most complex underwriting risks, using advanced diagnostic and systematic analysis to assess acceptability. Develops specialized endorsement language for the most complex risks. Determines appropriate pricing of the most complex risks for the assigned book of business based on financial and competitive analysis while ensuring compliance. Participates with senior management in the development and implementation of underwriting policy, marketing and business strategy. Interprets corporate strategies and initiatives to tailor the company's approach for the assigned territory and builds consensus within the organization. Analyzes quality, quantity, and profitability of the most complex risks underwritten and presents reports to senior management. Markets products and services through agencies or the brokerage community and conducts field visits. Develops and maintains agency and/or broker relationships, especially with the largest key customers in the territory, to assure positive and profitable outcomes on high-risk business. Keeps current on state/territory issues and regulations, industry activity and trends. Represents the company in industry trade groups and shares knowledge with others. Mentors and guides less experienced underwriters and assists in the development of underwriting training. Responsible for special underwriting projects and presentations. Skills, Knowledge And Abilities Highest level of technical and product-specific underwriting expertise and knowledge of insurance principles, practices, and procedures. Excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills; ability to interact with all levels of internal and external partners. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple projects. Ability to work with ambiguous situations and problems; creativity in resolving challenging business problems. Proactive, long-term focus on achieving business goals; ability to influence and lead change. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business software. Demonstrated leadership skills. Education and Experience Bachelor's degree or equivalent; professional designations preferred. Typically a minimum of ten years underwriting experience with a proven track record of results. The title of this role may change depending on level of experience. Titles may include: Underwriting Specialist or Underwriting Consultant In certain jurisdictions, CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. In District of Columbia, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $97,000 to $189,000 annually. Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
