Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced Telemetry RN for ED Hold patients requiring a CA RN license, with strong telemetry and drip management skills.
Responsibilities
- Position is in the ED Holds unit within an acute care hospital setting
- Care for patients recently released from the ED waiting for inpatient beds
- Unit has 25 ED beds with patient ratios of 1:4 or 1:5
- Common diagnoses include general medical cases and strokes
- RNs are required to manage and titrate drips such as heparin, amiodarone, cardizem, and GI medications
- No nurse aides on the unit; RN responsible for full patient care
- RNs must be competent in reading telemetry strips; no monitor tech present
- Rare use of trachs and occasional use of BiPAP
- Uses Cerner EMR
- 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend required
- Float is required to like inpatient units
- Self-scheduling is available but subject to manager adjustment
- No call or standby required
- Travelers work 2 of 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's)
- Navy blue scrubs required, with specific guidelines for undershirts and jackets
- Main duties include providing comprehensive telemetry nursing care to ED Hold patients and administering titratable drips
- Travelers will be the first to float to similar inpatient units as needed
- Unit has a charge nurse or house supervisor for support
- Department-specific orientation is provided upon arrival
- Holiday shifts are assigned on a rotating basis with permanent staff
- Sterile technique test required on first day for Foley catheter and central line dressing changes
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
Requirements
- Active CA RN license required and must be current at time of consideration
- Minimum of 2 years of acute care RN experience required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Telemetry experience and proficiency in managing/titrating drips are required
- Experience reading telemetry strips independently
- Successful completion of the Dysrhythmia (Relias) exam required before offer, with two attempts allowed
- RNs may not have been directly employed by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year
