DESCRIPTION The Transportation Director will oversee the daily management and operations of the department. This role involves leading a team of engineers and designers in the design and plan preparation for a variety of transportation improvement projects for both public and private clients in the Charlston WV area. The Director will also focus on the department's growth and development, as well as maintaining positive client relationships.
RESPONSIBILITIES Lead, assign, and review the work of the project delivery team, providing technical guidance and oversight for transportation project designs. Oversee department projects to ensure they meet agreed-upon scope, budget, and schedule. Ensure department compliance with quality management and quality assurance practices. Coach, develop, and mentor staff, attracting and retaining highly talented transportation professionals. Coordinate business development activities to support overall growth objectives, including project pursuits, client outreach, marketing, teaming arrangements, capture planning, proposal development and review, and interview preparation and delivery. Lead strategic planning and build relationships with key client decision-makers, staying ahead of upcoming project advertisements and changes within client organizations. Maintain and enhance existing client relationships, generate additional opportunities with current clients, and develop new clients. Monitor client satisfaction both internally and externally. Coordinate with Great Lakes Region transportation leadership on resource planning, business development, and project execution. Serve as a project manager on multi-discipline transportation design projects. Monitor and control the department's annual operating budget. PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field (Master’s Degree is a plus). Professional Engineer’s (PE) license. 20+ years of WVDOH roadway and bridge project management experience Demonstrated supervisory and mentoring skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including proposal writing, presentation skills, public speaking, and problem-solving abilities. Strong track record of successful project delivery. Ability to work in a dynamic environment and manage multiple tasks. Drive to be a leader within the company and the professional community. Strong engineering judgment with a commitment to quality and financial excellence. Team player with strategic thinking skills and a passion for mentoring junior staff COMPENSATION
The approximate compensation range for this position is $155,521 to $269,422. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
