Overview The Gunter Hotel San Antonio Riverwalk – Director Operations oversees the hotel’s overall operation in partnership with the General Manager, focusing on cost and quality standards, profitability, employee development, and guest satisfaction. The role involves analyzing operations, creating financial reports, and supporting sales/marketing efforts. Overtime considerations apply for OEM associates as needed.
Responsibilities Manages all sources of revenue including rooms, housekeeping, food and beverage, engineering, and other departments.
Ensures all departments are profitable and maintain strong working relationships.
Creates local and national marketing plans and pricing strategies and identifies market segments.
Responds quickly to changing market conditions and revises strategies accordingly.
Participates in sales discussions, meetings and plans; knows key account executives and the business base; tracks monthly production levels for sales staff.
Promotes hotel policies and philosophies to employees and guests through direct and indirect interaction.
Creates the hotel’s annual budget and monitors performance against budget.
Produces monthly financial reports and maintains awareness of the hotel’s financial position relative to budget.
Manages human resources functions by controlling turnover, motivating employees, development and retention, and conducting regular employee meetings.
Protects assets through enforcing a preventative maintenance program.
Completes property Quality Assurance and franchise reviews semi-quarterly.
Reviews GM’s marketing calls semi-quarterly to maintain market understanding.
Completes direct bill audits semi-quarterly.
Implements programs that meet corporate goals and objectives.
Evaluates overall operations and reports results to the Regional Vice President.
Ensures responsibilities, authorities, and accountability of all direct subordinates are defined and understood.
Conducts area meetings semi-annually.
Responds quickly to guest requests in a friendly manner; follows up to ensure guest satisfaction.
Maintains a professional image through appearance and dress.
Adheres to attendance guidelines in the employee handbook and reports to work on scheduled days and times.
Follows company policies and communicates them effectively to subordinates.
Ensures hotel compliance with federal, state and local laws including OSHA, EEOC, Wage Hour, and Health regulations.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor or management.
Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or equivalent hotel/hospitality experience.
At least 4 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Strong mathematical, budgeting, profit/loss, variance, and statistical analysis skills.
Alcohol awareness certification; General Manager or other franchise-required certification.
Strong leadership, oral and written communication skills.
Attention to detail, planning and organizational ability, customer service skills, computer literacy, and general accounting knowledge.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and willingness to be on call when away from work.
