Responsibilities
Strategically lead, inspire, and manage a passionate news team
Oversee on-air, streaming and digital news coverage
Guide the team to create powerful local journalism that lives the 2 On Your Side brand
Make sure local TV, digital, and regional marketing units work hand-in-hand on big stories
Encourage bold, creative thinking that breaks through the noise and earns audience trust
Use research and insights to drive content decisions that serve our audience
Lean into social and digital tools to find and share stories that speak truth to power
Lead a culture that consistently breaks news and owns accountability-focused enterprise reporting across all platforms
Coach journalists — at every stage in their careers — to deliver strong, memorable storytelling
Work across departments to help the station achieve big-picture goals
Perform other duties, as assigned, to drive and fulfill the mission,while abiding by the values of this organization
Requirements
15+ years of TV news experience, including at least 3 years as a news director or assistant news director
Prior experience as a news director strongly preferred
Proven success executing multi-platform strategies to keep audiences safe during severe weather; experience with winter weather is a plus
Demonstrated effectiveness spearheading wall-to-wall breaking news coverage
Skilled in producing engaging live TV newscasts and OTT shows that live the station brand
Experience coaching both seasoned and up-and-coming journalists
Ability and passion to lead and execute 2 On Your Side’s winning brand of holding the powerful accountable with consistent tough questions
Great listener and a clear leader
Solid journalistic judgment and a news philosophy that emphasizes accurate, fair, and unique local content, along with community engagement
Proven track record of successful talent management
A strategic partner who understands how to grow people, product, and ratings
Deep understanding of professional journalism and earning community trust

Pay Range
$135,000—$145,000 USD
Benefits
TEGNA offers comprehensive benefits designed to safeguard the physical, mental and financial health of our employees and their families. TEGNA offers two medical plan options for full and part-time employees through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, as well as access to dental and eye care coverage; fertility, surrogacy and adoption assistance; disability and life insurance.
Our 401(k) program offers full, part-time and temporary employees the opportunity to contribute 1% - 80% of their pay on a pre-tax basis to TEGNA’s 401(k). Contributions made up to the first 4% of pay are eligible for a 100% match from the company and are 100% vested from day one.
Regardless of participation in TEGNA medical plans, ALL employees and their eligible family members receive nine free virtual doctor’s appointments with a physician through Teladoc, and 12 free annual therapy sessions with a licensed clinician through Spring Health.
TEGNA offers a generous Paid Time Off (PTO) benefit as well as nine paid holidays per year.
Some jobs are covered by a collective bargaining agreement and thus some or all of the benefits described herein may not apply. For example, some newsroom bargaining unit employees receive health and retirement benefits under plans administered by the union.
