Job Summary: The Supportive Housing Director is responsible for the strategic oversight, operational management, and programmatic success of supportive housing programs serving young adults (ages 18–24) and adults in sober living environments. This leadership role ensures that housing services are trauma-informed, person-centered, recovery-oriented, and aligned with best practices in housing stability, mental health, and substance use recovery. The Director oversees program staff, ensures regulatory compliance, manages budgets, and fosters a culture of accountability, empowerment, and respect within the housing community.
Responsibilities
Oversee daily operations of young adult supportive housing and adult sober living residences.
Develop, implement, and continuously improve program policies, procedures, and protocols.
Ensure that programs meet all licensing, funding, and accreditation requirements.
Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to provide wraparound services including case management, behavioral health support, life skills training, employment assistance, and recovery services.
Supervise program managers and provide coaching, training, and professional development for all team members.
Facilitate team meetings, promote strong communication, and address performance issues proactively.
Ensure residents receive individualized support plans that promote housing stability, sobriety (for adult programs), independence, and community integration.
Monitor resident safety, well-being, and progress through regular reviews and incident reporting.
Uphold a supportive, inclusive environment with a focus on harm reduction, recovery, and restorative practices.
Maintain strong partnerships with behavioral health providers, workforce agencies, educational institutions, and community resources.
Advocate for residents’ needs with landlords, government agencies, and service partners.
Oversee accurate and timely data collection, documentation, and reporting in alignment with funding sources (HUD, SAMHSA, local government, etc.).
Monitor program budgets, control costs, and participate in grant writing and reporting.
Ensure compliance with confidentiality laws, housing regulations, and agency policies.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Social Work, Public Administration, Counseling, or related field preferred.
Experience: Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience in supportive housing, behavioral health, recovery services, or youth services. Experience with HUD, Continuum of Care programs, and harm reduction models is highly desirable.
Strong leadership and organizational skills
Deep understanding of trauma-informed care, housing-first principles, and recovery models
Excellent interpersonal, crisis management, and conflict resolution skills
Proficiency in data systems (e.g., HMIS, EHR) and Microsoft Office Suite
