The Food Research & Action Center (FRAC) seeks a talented and experienced leader with expertise in anti-hunger, nutrition, and anti-poverty issues to fill the position of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Director. The role focuses on expanding access to SNAP and improving benefit adequacy. This position reports to the President and is part of FRAC's leadership team. FRAC is based in Washington, D.C., operates remotely, and requires some in-person meetings in Washington, D.C., as well as travel to conferences, meetings, and events.
The Director will play a leadership role, working closely with the President to develop, lead, and track unit goals, and collaborate with other Directors to achieve FRAC's strategic and organizational objectives. Responsibilities include overseeing the SNAP team, identifying opportunities to expand the program's work, developing resources, providing technical assistance, and supporting access to SNAP. The role involves supervisory duties, working with the President and Development team on fundraising, and leveraging policy, research, analysis, partnerships, and coalitions to strengthen and protect SNAP. Deep expertise in SNAP is essential.

FRAC aims to improve the nutrition, health, and well-being of people facing poverty-related hunger in the U.S. through advocacy, partnerships, and policy solutions. The organization conducts research, policy analysis, advocacy, coalition-building, outreach, technical assistance, training, and communications. Key responsibilities include:
- Maintaining and enhancing FRAC's reputation as a trusted source on SNAP and anti-hunger policies.
- Developing strategies to strengthen, expand, and protect SNAP through policy analysis, advocacy, regrants, training, and technical assistance.
- Leading data collection and analysis to publish reports aligned with policy goals.
- Building FRAC’s capacity to improve SNAP services for all in need.
- Providing resources to support network members' policy advocacy efforts.
- Collaborating with network members to advance strategic priorities.
- Working with the Chief of Staff on project management systems.
- Leading key projects and initiatives within the team and organization.
- Evaluating legislation, regulations, and policies to defend and improve SNAP.
- Producing persuasive materials, guides, reports, and outreach content.
- Overseeing data and analysis projects.
- Presenting at conferences and meetings on SNAP access and benefit issues.
- Organizing webinars and trainings.
- Representing FRAC at coalition and partner meetings.
- Managing regrants to state and local nonprofits.
- Collaborating with the President and development team on fundraising efforts.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 10 years in advocacy, policy analysis, program operations, or organizing.
- Advanced degree in law, public policy, or equivalent experience.
- Proven management experience.
- Ability to work independently and in teams.
- Experience in nonprofit, government, or policy sectors.
- Strong data analysis and interpretation skills.
- Deep knowledge of SNAP.
- Established relationships with key stakeholders, including USDA and Congress.
- Experience with public benefits and outreach.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- High energy, integrity, and a sense of humor.
- Commitment to social justice, equity, and inclusion.
- Media experience.
- Legislative and federal advocacy experience.

Salary and Benefits: The salary range is $130,000 - $154,000, with excellent health, dental, vision, retirement, and other benefits, along with generous leave and a supportive staff environment.
