The Senior Director External Communications oversees reputation management efforts on behalf of the company, inclusive of the Media Relations, Crisis Management, Brand Reputation, and Public Relations functions. This position leads Prime's efforts to build and protect the companys brand through public relations, corporate event and communication initiatives, and proactively manages all interaction with the news and social media. This role is integral to the organizations crisis management and communications efforts, as it is responsible for leading the companys messaging and positioning on key issues (the enterprise point of view), and creating an intentional, outward facing presence through various earned, owned, shared, and paid channels.
Responsibilities Lead a team responsible for high profile projects and platforms; guide their performance and development while consistently demonstrating Primes leadership expectations during interactions with direct reports, cross functional and external stakeholders; develop and manage Public Relations and Crisis Management budgets, and advocate for necessary resources or processes to improve efficiency and advance Primes name.
Lead agency relationships; orchestrate multiple agencies via Interagency team effort to align to overarching brand reputation efforts.
Develop and execute an annual plan to measure and enhance the organizations reputation with key audiences via various channels.
Serve as Primes company spokesperson on a variety of topics, as needed in the media or with the senior leadership team; provide coaching and preparation to senior leaders or company experts for high profile media interviews.
Influence and collaborate with leaders across the organization who help shape reputation management efforts; identify public relations strategies that can enhance our reputation, and support mitigation and communication effort in response to identified operational risks; partner with clients and vendors to tell pharmacy related stories that can help position them as leaders in their markets, and Prime as a valued partner.
Collaborate with Primes government affairs and policy teams to ensure reputation and media strategy can influence policy decisions.
Advocate for, develop, execute and measure multi-channel communication strategies that align to the companys strategic priorities and business objectives, and that integrate with other major marketing, employee and client communication initiatives; define operational and service metrics that evaluate the effectiveness, efficiency and scalability of reputation management activities (i.e., media results, page views, open rates, etc.).
Partner with the marketing team to assess industry and competitor news, and oversee the dissemination of relevant industry developments, quickly assess major industry, company, and clinical situations and translate them into effective, comprehensive communications that deliver Primes message and position to all pertinent audiences.
Education & Experience Bachelors degree in business, marketing, communication or public relations, or equivalent combination of education and/or relevant work experience; HS diploma or GED required. 10 years of work experience in related agency or corporate communications roles. 7 years of leadership/people management experience. Must be eligible to work in the United States without the need for work visa or residency sponsorship.
Additional Qualifications Expert interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively facilitate meetings, resolve conflict, build consensus, establish rapport and collaborate effectively across departments, internally and externally, and at all levels within an organization. Demonstrated critical thinking and analysis skills. Ability to confidently represent the business and interact with external entities. Ability to provide strategic counsel and constructive feedback with a strong sense of professional integrity and the ability to handle sensitive or confidential material appropriately. Ability to deliver big picture communication strategies and drive high profile, large projects to execution. Strong people management and coaching skills.
Preferred Qualifications External communications or Public Relations experience working on behalf of a corporation. Health care industry experience; pharmacy or pharmacy benefit management industry knowledge. Experience serving on cross-functional leadership teams.
