We are looking for a technical leader who will drive engineering excellence across all major components of our Compute offerings. You will own new and existing systems, guide multiple teams through product definition, implementation, operations and scaling, and coach managers to reach new levels of excellence. Your work will directly impact DigitalOcean customers. What You’ll Be Doing Working in close partnership with Product Management, Design and other core product directors (Networking, Storage, AI Infrastructure) to deliver key Compute products. Optimizing Compute fleet performance and efficiency at scale across globally distributed Data Centers. Defining and executing on the next generation of high performance Compute products. Develop quarterly goals and objectives that keep your teams aligned with the vision and higher-level company goals. Make large prioritization decisions, and tradeoffs between schedule, scope, cost. Attract, develop and retain the people required to deliver your plan. Actively coach and develop the managers and technical leaders within your organization, and create a healthy culture that supports long-term delivery. Command the economics tied to your organization, including ROI considerations, revenue impact, margins, opex and capex budgets. Actively participate in the yearly and quarterly budget process and manage to these budgets. Be an open communicator within DigitalOcean in both written and spoken form. Routinely present at company AMAs. Drive a company initiative that does not fit neatly in a box and has impact beyond your immediate organization. What We’ll Expect From You Significant experience managing software development teams and shipping software-based products or services; experience with kernel, virtualization and fleet management technologies at scale is a big plus. Experience building and leading teams with scalability in rapidly growing environments. Direct experience building scalable infrastructure software and/or distributed systems. Strong analytic and quantitative analysis skills. Strong communications skills with the ability to prioritize and drive focus and excellence through a talented and motivated team. Sound business judgment with the ability to influence and drive consensus. A sense of ownership, urgency, and drive. Systems thinking to understand complex organizations and how to work effectively in a complex environment. Ability to uphold high standards in architecture and engineering. Strong cross-functional collaboration and effective written and spoken communication. Comfort with build, buy, partner decisions.
