GENERAL FUNCTIONS: Under the direction of the Executive Director and in accordance with Association policies, the Sports Director is responsible for the planning, development, supervision and administration of sports and teen programming including, but not limited to: sports classes and leagues, clinics, birthday parties, dance and gymnastics, and youth safety, teen nights and management of the teen space. Additionally, the Sports Director will oversee a Youth & Family Coordinator that is responsible for Child Watch and Family initiatives. The Sports Director will oversee the development and implementation of innovative curriculum and activities, supervise, develop, coach and train staff to ensure that participants’ development occurs in a fun, healthy and safe environment, and ensure program outcomes are consistently achieved. Typical work week may include weeknights and Saturdays.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for hiring, training, observing, and supervising program staff and volunteers. Responsible for supervising Youth & Family Coordinator and following areas: Child Watch, Family Nights, Parent’s Night Out and Special Events. Requires on-site presence during program hours and direct service in assigned program areas as needed. Identify, develop, implement, and promote high quality programming to meet the needs of the community. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Create and maintain positive relationships will the staff, members, participants, and youth and teens while providing motivational support and guidance. Promptly respond to member and participant needs, and manage complaints in a courteous, patient manner using problem solving techniques. Assist with marketing and distribution of program information. Coordinate use of facilities for program activities and events such as birthday parties, leagues, etc. Compile program statistics, while monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of and participation in programs areas. Demonstrate strong fiscal stewardship through the development and monitoring of the approved annual budget with recommended adjustments. Uphold the core values of the YMCA when working with people within the YMCA facilities and community. Participate in financial development efforts such as the Annual Community Support Campaign and special events. Support branch operations by fulfilling Manager on Duty shift needs as scheduled. Perform other duties as assigned and/or related to the role. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly supervises Youth and Family Coordinator, youth sports instructors, dance, cheer, and gymnastics instructors, safety training instructors and birthday party staff in accordance with the organization’s policies, mission, and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, and addressing and resolving issues. Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience; previous supervisory experience preferred. Must be able to relate well to youth, teens, and adults, and must have the ability to multi-task. Must be able to demonstrate and participate in youth sports, navigate indoor and outdoor terrain, lift a minimum 50 pounds, and be able to set up and take down sports equipment. Must be able to provide direct service and oversight of programming implementing safety and effective instruction or redirection of participants. Successful completion of First Aid, CPR, and AED Training will be required within 60 days of hire.
