Duties Description • Coordinate a statewide approach to engaging, foster care programming, including identifying best practices for mentoring youth in care.
• Creating policy and paperwork to standardize support provided for foster care mentoring programs.
• Participating in and designing program assessment, survey dissemination, and collection.
• Program Development and Management, plan, design, and implement mentoring programs to meet initiative goals, including structuring programs for diverse youth populations, ., elementary, middle, and high school students, youth in foster care, homeless youth, or court-involved youth.
• Stakeholder Engagement, build and maintain relationships with youth partners, school officials, community-based organizations, local businesses, non-profits, faith-based groups, and civic and political leaders.
• Oversee large-scale recruitment approaches and screening of prospective volunteer mentors.
• Mentor Recruitment and Training, recruit individuals to serve as mentors, conduct information sessions, develop and carry out training programs for volunteers, and help with mentor screening.
• Program Implementation Support, guide and assist site coordinators, work with youth partner staff to roll out mentoring, and provide ongoing support to volunteer mentors through regular communication and site visits.
• Communication Strategy, develop and maintain effective communication plans with key stakeholders, including students, schools, foster care agencies, community partners, and parents or guardians.
• Troubleshooting, address, and resolve problems and issues that arise with programming.
• Documentation and Compliance, ensure all necessary paperwork, assessments, and forms from youth partners are completed and reported promptly.
• Program Marketing, design, and publicize the mentoring program, highlighting the benefits of being a mentor.
• Mentoring Best Practices, deliver and promote youth-centered mentoring best practices, including providing session content and discussion topics.
• Data Reporting and Record Keeping, produce detailed monthly reports for the Deputy Director.
• Meeting Facilitation; Support stakeholder and committee meetings.
• Program Development, planning and designing programming to ensure NYSMP initiative goals and objectives are met.
• Additional Support, Assist the NYSMP Deputy Director (and leadership) with other tasks related to the needs and success of (NYSMP).
• Travel, some travel is required and will be discussed during the interview.
Minimum Qualifications • Minimum of five (5) years working in youth development, mentoring programs, teaching, social work, community organizing, or related field.
• Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree from related field may substitute for two (2) years of experience
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Demonstrated creativity, flexibility, and comfort in working with diverse populations
• Strong program management skills required.
• Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive environment.
• Experience with working with you in foster care.
• Bilingual a plus in (Creole, Yoruba, Igbo, French)
