The position has functional responsibility for regional medical affairs, including medical monitoring and health hazard assessments to assess medical risk both for products under development and in the field. This person will establish and leverage critical relationships with regional key opinion leaders at scientific conferences and advisory boards and engage in projects related to research, medical education and medical communication. Provide medical support for the commercial organization. Provide strategic guidance through participation in key associations (medical, clinical, industry) to influence policy and regulations regarding medical devices.Position reports to the Chief Medical Officer, interacts closely with area functions, in country senior staff and in country marketing and commercial teams. Leads dedicated medical affairs staff.Position is full-time remote in the U.S.What You’ll Work OnHas regional responsibility for all medical affairs functions and activities, providing medical oversight and decision making for all critical product issues. Serves as a regional product safety officer and is responsible for regional safety assessments for adverse events related to products.Leads regional scientific advisory boards and liaises with regional key opinion leaders on generating ideas for future product/device development, expanded labelling of existing products/devices and scientific communication of safety/efficacy of current products.Pilots new projects involving the regional medical community in alliance with global functions.Supports regional commercial/marketing teams by working closely with in country staff on development of medical communication, advises commercial/marketing personnel regarding features, benefits and competitive advantages.Supports ADC’s activities in training and continuous medical education. Participates in local, state, national and international medical/industry governmental meetings, providing strategic guidance to the Division through participation in these key associations to influence policy and regulations regarding medical devices.Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and performing other duties as assigned by management.Approximately 40% travel.Accountability / Scope:Owns the medical affairs work stream within the region, which has a critical impact on the business.Leads dedicated medical affairs staff in the region.Embedded in a network of medical and clinical experts and contributes to the global medical/clinical strategy through this network.Supervisory / Management: Direct reports: Up to 7 exempts and up to 1 Non-exemptIndirect reports: Up to 30 exemptsRequired Qualifications MD degree with board certification and competency in clinical diabetes care.Minimum of 5 years of industry experience in a management role.Minimum of 3 years of industry experience managing teams of 5 or more people.Hands-on experience in the management of patients with diabetes.Scientific credibility with internal and external groups; must convey complex scientific and clinical information to wide variety of audiences.Interacts frequently with key experts.Fluency in English.Preferred QualificationsAdditional post-graduate qualification such as Master’s Degree in public health, health economics or health policy.Knowledge of clinical research, medical risk management and/or medical device regulations is preferred.Clinical background in diabetology / endocrinology.Experience with clinical study design, health economics or medical statistics.Fluency in French.Leadership Skills Team oriented with the confidence, maturity and integrity to work effectively with Abbott senior leaders, key opinion leaders and health care professionals.
