Senior Software Engineering Manager on the Embedded Payroll team, responsible for influencing the team and broader organization as we build and scale our payroll product embedded in third-party software through APIs.
Here’s What You’ll Do Day-to-day
- Engage directly with our developer-customers to deliver a remarkable payroll product.
- Level up the craft of software engineering across the organization by providing technical guidance and mentoring.
- Hire, lead and grow a team of diverse and talented engineers.
- Build and foster an inclusive, collaborative and high-performance culture.
- Collaborate with product management and design to define problem spaces and lead complex technical projects from planning through delivery.
- Work with leadership and cross-functional partner teams to set priorities for short-term and long-term roadmaps.
- Contribute to engineering-wide initiatives as a member of Gusto’s engineering management team.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience: 10+ years of professional software development experience and 3+ years of management experience; technical owner for organization-wide initiatives with scale experience.
- Technical Expertise: Frontend background with large React applications and experience leading React teams.
- Platform Thinker: Experience designing and building platforms and public-facing APIs with an emphasis on reliability and performance at scale.
- Bar Raiser: Mentored others and raised the technical bar; capable of guiding ambiguous problems and managing competing priorities.
- Effective Communicator: Aligns technical goals with business priorities and communicates constraints to leadership.
Compensation, Location & Office
Cash compensation for this role targets $189,000/yr to $225,000/yr in Denver, and $223,000/yr to $265,000/yr for San Francisco & New York. Stock equity is additional. Final offer amounts depend on candidate experience and expertise.
Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees based in those locations are expected to work from the office on designated days approximately 2-3 days per week (or more depending on role). The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles, Gusto’s subsidiary in Scottsdale. Note: The San Francisco office expectations cover the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas.
When approved to work from a location other than a Gusto office, a secure, reliable, and consistent internet connection is required, including non-office days for hybrid employees.
