About the Role
Planet is seeking a highly strategic and experienced Senior Director of Product and Industry Marketing to lead our comprehensive Product Marketing team. This pivotal role is responsible for defining and executing the overarching go-to-market strategy for Planet’s data and platform products and integrated solutions. You will oversee product marketers focused on specific product lines, as well as industry marketers dedicated to key verticals across civil government, defense and intelligence, and the commercial sectors.
This role demands a leader who can translate complex technical capabilities into compelling value propositions for a diverse global customer base across various industries. You will be instrumental in shaping Planet’s market narrative, driving customer adoption, and further establishing Planet as a leader in Earth observation and geospatial intelligence. You will lead efforts to identify high-potential market opportunities, and ensure our messaging and positioning resonate with strategic buyers and users. This is a full-time, hybrid role which will require you to work from our San Francisco office 3 days per week.
Impact You’ll Own
Define, lead, and oversee the go-to-market strategy for Planet’s portfolio, encompassing core medium resolution imagery, high-resolution tasking, hyperspectral data, and platform capabilities.
Oversee the development of cohesive messaging and positioning strategies across all product lines and industry verticals, ensuring a unified and differentiated voice for Planet in the market.
Guide the creation of core narratives, sales enablement tools, website content, datasheets, demos, presentations, and case studies that clearly communicate our value.
Direct market research, competitive intelligence, and customer feedback initiatives to sharpen Planet’s brand perception and highlight strategic differentiators.
Foster a deep understanding of core challenges and use cases within the customer base.
Act as a critical strategic bridge between all Product & Engineering teams and Commercial-facing teams, ensuring alignment on roadmaps, market needs, and sales enablement.
Recruit, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of Product Marketing Managers (PMMs) and Industry Marketing Managers.
What You Bring
10+ years of experience in product marketing leadership, with a significant portion in a Senior Director or equivalent role within a B2B SaaS, data, or geospatial technology company.
8+ years of supervisory and/or leadership experience.
Track record of building, leading, and scaling high-performing product marketing teams.
Mastery in translating intricate technical concepts into clear, compelling narratives and differentiated value propositions for diverse audiences, including government customers.
Advanced analytical acumen, with extensive experience leveraging market insights, competitive analysis, and customer feedback to inform strategic decisions and drive business outcomes.
Ability to drive cross-functional alignment and influence stakeholders at all levels, including executive leadership, product, engineering, and commercial teams, often in matrixed or highly cross-functional settings.
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to work independently and across time zones.
What Makes You Stand Out
Advanced understanding of Earth observation, geospatial data, or remote sensing technologies.
Familiarity with international markets, regulatory environments, and cultural nuances relevant to the Defense & Intelligence sector.
Experience with cloud computing architectures, platform development, and APIs in the context of data delivery.

Compensation
The US base salary range for this full-time position at the commencement of employment is $231,500 – $289,400 USD. Additionally, this role might be eligible for discretionary short-term and long-term incentives (bonus and equity). The final salary range is determined by job related experience, skills and location.
