JOB SUMMARY:
The Senior Director of Business Development, CU-ICAR will establish and expand mutually beneficial strategic corporate partnerships in alignment with the Clemson Elevate strategic plan. This position will create and execute corporate engagement activities with the university focused on talent development, research, and campus and community impact. The Senior Director of Business Development, CU-ICAR will demonstrate strong technical, strategic planning, communication, and customer service skills to generate business leads, cultivate internal and external stakeholder collaboration, and build impactful industry-academic partnerships. This position reports to the Associate Vice President Corporate Partnerships in the External Affairs Division and is based full-time at the CU-ICAR campus of Clemson University located in Greenville, South Carolina.
JOB DUTIES:
40% - Essential - Corporate Partnerships Creation and Expansion: Create Strategic Roadmaps and develop and track Strategic Corporate Partner (SCP) Index activities for assigned SCPs to continuously expand these partnerships. Develop a robust portfolio of Campus Partners and Prospective Partners by building Strategic Engagement Portfolio (SEP) engagements with new and assigned companies. Deepen these partnerships by creating mutually beneficial opportunities to engage through the SEP. Lead business development and collaboration with university and industry stakeholders to advance proposals, contracts, etc., to establish specific partnership engagements. Ensure smooth implementation, execution, and growth of the mutually agreed upon Strategic Roadmaps for SCPs and SEP activities for new company partnerships.
30% - Essential - Relationships and Communication: Build trusted, high-level relationships with new corporate partners and assigned, existing SCPs by meeting with them frequently and arranging for meetings and visits with Clemson executive and academic leadership. Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including faculty, staff, department chairs, program leaders, deans, and external partners, to create alignment that provides high mutual value to existing and prospective corporate partners. Work closely with the Department of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering and other CU-ICAR academic programs, departments, and centers to have a keen technical knowledge of the CU-ICAR business and academic ecosystem. Collaborate with the CU-ICAR Executive Director to ensure alignment on campus initiatives and develop new company engagement opportunities. Communicate closely with External Affairs Division and Office of Corporate Partnerships (OCP) colleagues to understand synergistic opportunities for corporate partners.
20% - Essential - Business Development Pipeline: Visit companies and executives, and research business and
academic trends to create a business development pipeline across multiple industry sectors compatible with the Clemson Elevate strategic plan. Effectively conduct and communicate lead to close achievement of pipeline on a regular basis, and make recommendations on constantly improving cultivation cycle and close rate. Strong focus on new business development with demonstrated results of bringing new companies into the pipeline.
10% - Essential - Accountability and Reporting: Track and report business development activities, corporate partnership growth, and other OCP metrics to inform strategic decisions. Regularly update and report on progress and achievement of SCP Index and Strategic Roadmap goals and activities.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education - Bachelor's Degree; Technical, Business, or related field
Work Experience - 7+ years relevant experience in higher education and industry sectors such as automotive, mobility, and/or transportation in establishing public-private partnerships.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
Education - Master's Degree; technical field (e.g. Engineering)
Work Experience - 10+ years relevant experience in higher education and industry sectors such as automotive, mobility, and/or transportation in establishing public-private partnerships.

COMPENSATION INFORMATION
Expected Salary Range: $103,300.00 - $142,690.00
Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.
