POSITION SUMMARY
Regional Psychiatric Director will oversee all behavioral health Contracted services by providing clinical leadership to the providers, recruitment of psychiatry staff as well as advising the NH Department of Corrections on policy matters pertaining to areas such as forensic psychiatry.
Responsible for leading and monitoring Wexford Health’s psychiatric services within the New Hampshire Department of Corrections facilities including psychiatric intakes, assessments and evaluations, treatment and medication monitoring, and disposition of inmates within the correctional system.
Serves as a member of the multi-disciplinary treatment team and acts as a liaison with other medical disciplines.
Ensures that psychiatric treatment services are delivered in a timely, effective, and cost efficient manner.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES Serve as the director of a complex and comprehensive statewide behavioral health program; provides high level oversite of behavioral health care delivered at every New Hampshire Department of Corrections facility.
Plan, coordinate, direct and evaluate the work of behavioral health staff consisting of professional and paraprofessional staff.
Coordinate the work of behavioral health service personnel with other facility programs; confers with Psychiatrists and other treatment personnel to evaluate care and treatment programs.
Develop, implement and evaluate behavioral health policies, procedures and standards of care and direct changes in behavioral health practices to meet acceptable standards of care as defined by accreditation and certification agencies.
Direct the development, implementation and evaluation of a behavioral health education, orientation and in-service program for all levels of staff; coordinate a student training program with the affiliated school or university.
Precepts/mentors new Psychiatrists or designates Psychiatrist from similar site.
Oversees and evaluates each Psychiatrist orientation, ensuring that new staff gets necessary knowledge to be successful in new roll.
Monitors and ensures the appropriate utilization of psychotropic medications.
May prepare budgetary recommendations and review of requisitions for supplies
Participate as a member of the statewide policy and decision-making committee; confers with other statewide directors to resolve administrative problems.
Provide leadership and direction to behavioral health staff at assigned correctional health care facilities.
Develops and maintains a system to provide 24-hour behavioral health consultation services to institutional staff in situations requiring immediate crisis intervention
Develop and monitor goals and objectives for the state in conjunction with overall Wexford goals and objectives; assist in the development and implementation of statewide Wexford Health Sources policies and procedures.
Conduct site visits to provide supervision, complete record reviews, and collect data and information to determine program effectiveness and compliance.
Provide staff training and development programs as well as technical advice; interpret complex NCCHC policy as appropriate/needed; provide procedural steps to assigned facility staff to enhance their skills in resolving problems related to these areas.
Is a vital and active member of state level CQI committee.
Monitors site level CQI activities related to delivery of behavioral health care. Assists site in corrective action plans related to behavioral health.
Participate in local, state, and national representative meetings related to the trends and developments in Wexford Health and correctional health care.
Performs peer reviews of other Wexford providers as directed by the Corporate Vice President, Behavioral Health.
Helps recruit WHS statewide staff; assign, monitor, and evaluate the work of staff; provide for identified staff training needs.
TRAVEL Travel required to all NH DOC facilities (most located directly in Concord, with occasional travel to 1 other facility located in Berlin, NH)
LICENSING Current New Hampshire Medical license required at time of start date (those not yet licensed in NH still encouraged to apply)
Current New Hampshire Controlled Substance and DEA required at time of start date
CERTIFICATION Board Certification – American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology required
current CPR certification required at time of start date
EDUCATION Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) with psychiatry residency required
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE 5 years’ experience in an institutional healthcare setting preferred. 2 years managerial/leadership experience or training in administrative aspects of health care preferred.
