Job Overview:
The Recreation Director is responsible for leading the vision, strategy, and daily operations of The Isles’ recreation and wellness offerings to deliver best-in-class member experience. Oversee aquatics, sports courts, fitness/wellness, kayaking and trails, group classes, recreation social events, and related amenities. Responsible for programming, service standards, safety, budget performance, and member engagement consistent with the community’s culture.
Your Responsibilities:
Program Strategy and Member Experience
Develop an annual recreation and wellness plan aligned with community goals, member demographics and expectations, and seasonal trends.
Curate a balanced calendar: aquatics, fitness, sports courts, outdoor recreation, leagues, clinics, special events, and other programming.
Uphold high-touch service standards; ensure programs meet quality, safety, and inclusivity expectations.
Measure and improve participation, satisfaction, and retention; solicit and act on member feedback.
Provide leadership in collaborating with member-populated Bocce, Pickleball, and Tennis Advisory Teams; prepare reports and present results and plans.
Operations and Facility Management
Oversee daily operations of pools, fitness center/yoga studio, courts and recreation office.
Ensure facilities are clean, safe, well-maintained, and properly equipped; coordinate with Maintenance and third-party vendors.
Manage scheduling for classes, courts, instructors, and spaces; optimize utilization and access.
Implement standard operating procedures, risk management, and incident reporting.
Safety, Risk, and Compliance
Maintain compliance with health codes, OSHA, ADA, aquatic standards, and community policies.
Oversee water quality, chemical logs, and pool plant operations; ensure lifeguard coverage and emergency action plans.
Manage waivers, youth safety protocols, background checks, and incident response.
Financial Management
Build and manage operating and capital budgets; forecast revenue and expenses.
Drive program enrollment, ancillary revenue, and cost control; manage vendor and instructor agreements.
Track KPIs: participation, revenue/margins, labor ratios, cost per program, member satisfaction.
Events and Collaboration
Plan and execute recreation-related events and member social events; coordinate with Food & Beverage and Lifestyle departments.
Partner with Golf, Racquets/Tennis, Spa, Membership/Marketing, and Communications to cross-promote offerings.
Marketing and Communication
Create clear, timely communication: program guides, calendars, app/website content, emails, and signage.
Use member data to tailor offerings and outreach; maintain accurate program information and policies.
Technology and Administration
Utilize and manage court reservation system for registration, billing, rosters, and usage reporting.
Maintain accurate records, inventories, and contracts; ensure timely invoicing.
Protect member privacy and uphold community standards of discretion and professionalism.
Skills & Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Management, Hospitality, Sports Management, Kinesiology, or related field; equivalent experience considered.
7+ years progressive leadership in recreation, hospitality, or private club/community setting; aquatics/fitness/programming experience required.
Proven success with program development, budget/P&L management, staff leadership, and member/client service in a high-expectation environment.
Certifications/Licenses
Required: Adult/Child CPR, First Aid, AED (or obtained within 30 days).
Strongly preferred: CPO/AFO (pool operations), WSI, Group Fitness/Personal Training certifications.
Valid driver’s license; ability to pass background check as applicable.
Physical Requirements:
Physical demands include ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Standing, sitting, walking, carrying, and occasional climbing.
Ability to work extended/flexible hours and weekends.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly or indirectly supervise associates within the assigned property.
Additional Information
Schedule: variable; requires evenings, weekends, and holidays based on events and seasonal demand
