Overview Product Design Director, Audit, Credit & Financial Risk Management We are seeking a Product Design Director to lead our Audit, CFRM, and Enterprise Services Risk (ESR) team, part of the Risk and Audit Design team within Capital One's Experience Design organization. The Audit, CFRM, and ESR portfolio consists of design professionals dedicated to safeguarding Capital One through supporting critical platforms in credit and financial risk management, enterprise services risk, and internal auditing capabilities and processes. This team helps ensure Capital One makes timely, accurate decisions that comply with complex financial services regulations and policies, while collaborating with enterprise Risk partners, including business owners, product owners, managers, and engineering partners, to push innovation and high-quality user experiences. Responsibilities Lead a cross-disciplinary team of designers and collaborate with research, product, and technology leadership to guide high-impact, complex programs. Define and drive design strategy that informs the organization’s higher-level vision and aligns with business objectives. As a People Leadership role, build and lead agile, professional design teams; mentor and integrate design with business partners from inception to delivery. Develop and sustain a strategic vision, with strong business acumen and experience in financial services or risk management, focusing on design quality and business outcomes. Foster cross-functional partnerships and drive future-oriented design initiatives across the organization. Competencies Product Design Expertise: Leverage leadership in product design to elevate practice, oversee tools, platforms, design systems, and artifacts such as vision stories, journey maps, blueprints, high-fidelity designs, and prototypes. Leadership: Create an inclusive, collaborative culture where the team feels valued and heard. Human-Centered: Champion customer and partner voices, aligning business and customer outcomes. Business-Focused: Apply knowledge of products, processes, customers, competitors, and market trends to shape design engagement and solutions. Problem-Solving: Share insights on data capabilities and navigate technical constraints to enable bold solutions. Collaboration: Connect teams and processes to drive coherent experiences and faster delivery. Communication: Present work to diverse audiences, integrating design, data, and research insights to influence stakeholders. The ideal candidate has a strong portfolio demonstrating leadership, process, results, and impact. Qualifications Basic Qualifications: At least 8 years of experience in a product design role At least 3 years of experience leading design teams Preferred Qualifications: 10+ years of experience in a product design role 5+ years of experience leading design teams Experience in a toolkit spanning product design, service design, design strategy, and content design Experience leading product design teams across UX/UI, strategy, content, and research from strategy through delivery Experience partnering with product managers, engineers, marketing and analytics leaders to shape strategy, OKRs, roadmaps and operating models Experience working within a design system Proficiency with web and mobile technologies to drive product decisions Expertise with design and prototyping tools such as Figma Experience managing an interdisciplinary design team Proficiency in business case development, grounding decisions in business value Exceptional written and verbal communication skills Exceptional interpersonal skills and relationship building across complex organizations Exceptional people management and development skills At this time, Capital One will not sponsor a new applicant for employment authorization for this position. The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated. McLean, VA: $226,000 - $257,900 for Director, Design; New York, NY: $246,500 - $281,300 for Director, Design; Richmond, VA: $205,400 - $234,400 for Director, Design. Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range for that location. The actual offer will be reflected in the offer letter. This role is eligible for performance-based incentive compensation, including cash bonuses and/or long-term incentives (LTI), discretionary or non-discretionary depending on the plan.
