Responsible for the total management of a designated unit, which includes setting goals and objectives in accordance with the hospital strategic initiatives, and for planning, organizing, directing, and monitoring unit activities on a twenty-four (24) hour basis. Fiscally responsible for the unit, facilitating efficient and cost effective daily operations. Coordinates and evaluates the effectiveness of staff, unit performance, and system operations. Implements units strategic plan relevant to hospital initiatives, while continuing to develop professional and support staff in establishing an environment where staff and patients are able to reach their full potential.**Essential Job Duties**Oversees the unit-based daily patient care management rounds and supports the multidisciplinary team in this effort. Analyzes unit productivity; prepares appropriate reports; and initiates actions as needed.Establishes, reviews, and revises policies, procedures, and standards in collaboration with the practice committees, managers of nursing practice and other disciplines. Plans, develops, and manages the designated unit budget to meet clinical and operational goals within administrative guidelines and support of hospital. Implements an outcome focused Quality Improvement program that is multidisciplinary and continually improves customer satisfaction. Establishes targets for measurable improvements in customer satisfaction and other initiatives. Investigates, evaluates, and resolves patient complaints in collaboration with other departments and disciplines.Monitors clinical practice and unit systems to promote a culture of safety. Utilizes established lines of communication to ensure consistent and appropriate dissemination of information including hospital and divisional goals.Maintains fiscal responsibility for operation of the unit. Analyzes the cost efficiency of services. Participates in short and long range strategic planning. Prepares appropriate reports; direct s initiatives that enhance revenues or reduce expenses and maintains quality. Oversees the case management/care coordination activities of the patient population on the unit(s) and assists in the management of a patients length of stay.Establishes method of care delivery and staffing patterns and schedules based on operational plan and budget. Delineates unit specific knowledge areas, skills, and competencies required for the provision of quality care.Functions as a resource person for planning, implementing, and evaluating specific activities and programs at the unit level. Incorporates staff participation in all steps of the process. Assists in staff recruitment efforts. Selects personnel for employment and promotion. Orients new employees to the unit. Develops and implements unit-based staff retention plan that enhances staff satisfaction as well as an administrative succession plan. Mentors and develops staffs clinical and leadership skills.Evaluates staff performance and develops corrective action plans. Ensures compliance with annual requirements**Preferred Criteria*** Strong Leadership and Communication Skills* Understanding of nursing operations, finance and quality* Experience with union environments* At least 1 year of management experience within the last 5 years**Required Criteria*** At least 3 years of acute care RN experience as a staff nurse in medicine/surgery* BSN* Master's Degree in Nursing: if currently pursuing a Masters Degree, must obtain within 1 year of hire* ANCC Board certification (either nursing leadership and/or Medical/Surgical specialty)* Current New York State RN license* BCLS certificationJoin a healthcare system where employee engagement is at an all-time high.
