Patient Care Director

The Patient Care Director has twenty four-hour accountability for the operational management of the Special Procedures Unit (Cardiac Cath Lab & Interventional Radiology). Implicit in this statement is indicated managerial responsibility for the supervision, direction and support of the nursing staff in that unit to meet the needs of the Patient/Unit/Hospital. Responsible for the education of the invasive staff. Collaborates with the Physician director of the invasive laboratories in assuring that the goals and objectives are met. Duties include but not be limited to:

  • Prepares and sends quarterly report to the DOH.
  • Prepares and oversees the financial budget of the department
  • Able to perform all duties during cardiac catheterization and vascular procedures.
  • Be responsible for training employees in all aspects of the catheterization procedures.
  • Ability to perform all duties during cardiac catheterization procedure.
  • Be responsible for all performance appraisals and maintain the Continuous Quality Assessment and Improvement Program.
  • Reviews, updates, enhances the policy and procedure of the Cath Lab
  • Prepares and sends quarterly reports to DOH as required.
  • Maintains and keep log for the preventive maintenance of the equipment as per contract.
  • Organize and coordinate the cardiac cath. conference.
  • Direct efficient and safe environment for both patients and employees.
  • Responsible for personnel scheduling for daily operation of the laboratory.
  • Maintain direct lines of communication with physicians utilizing:
  • Attendance at quarterly Cardiology Committee meeting.
  • Availability to deal with immediate physician grievances.
  • Understand components of supervision, i.e. planning, coordinating, reporting, interpreting, directing and motivating.
  • Ability to handle emergency situations during high-risk procedures performed in a catheterization laboratory.
  • Have excellent communication skills to communicate with physician, staff and patients.
  • Technical judgment necessary for critical decisions in patient management based on diagnostic data.
  • Progressive learning of new procedures, and new services
  • Able to assist in preparation of CN of any new services for the department, organization.
