Job Summary/Description:
The News Director reports to the VP/General Manager and must possess strong leadership skills, community awareness, journalistic integrity, and oversee content gathering and presentation in a viewer-focused storytelling style.
Responsibilities:
Supervise and coordinate news staff to ensure quality, relevant content.
Ensure content is accurate and timely across multiple platforms.
Set standards and expectations for news and operations staff.
Collaborate with department managers to achieve station goals.
Review daily newscasts for quality control.
Oversee news coverage planning.
Manage the news budget.
Develop strategies for audience growth.
Build community relationships to enhance the station's image.
Approve personnel decisions.
Build and train an effective newsroom team.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience. Prefer candidates with:
Deep understanding of evolving media landscape.
Proven leadership in local news production and talent development.
Strong leadership and news judgment.
Experience with multimedia digital assets.
Passion for storytelling and commitment to journalistic ethics.
