Objective And Position Summary The Medical Director of Psychiatric Services is responsible for oversight of the current psychiatric service delivery model of CPLC’s Integrated Health and Human Service Programs. Existing programs include outpatient and residential behavioral health and substance abuse services within clinical environments. The Medical Director ensures the quality of psychiatric care in coordination with facility leadership, promotes evidence-based practices, and ensures proper care for all members.
Supervisory Responsibilities The Medical Director provides clinical supervision, support, and assistance to the medical staff (psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses) at all IHHS behavioral health facilities.
SPECIALIZATIONS The Medical Director must have demonstrated skills in management relevant to the integrated health model, especially within a non-profit organization. Must demonstrate cultural awareness and sensitivity to low-income and at-risk families, including dual language speakers. Experience providing services to adult and child populations, Court Ordered Treatment, and Seriously Mentally Ill individuals is required.
Primary Duties And Essential Functions
Provide scheduled and as-needed clinical supervision for all medical staff at CPLC behavioral health programs.
Ensure annual performance reviews, establish professional development goals, and recommend disciplinary actions when necessary.
Collaborate with Program Directors to expand medical service modalities within IHHS.
Communicate with medical staff regarding clinical initiatives, system changes, and quality issues, including monthly on-site meetings.
Identify system improvement opportunities in psychiatric and clinical care.
Provide after-hours and weekend backup call assistance to clinicians and Crisis Services, meeting AHCCCS and RBHA requirements.
Facilitate peer reviews, monitoring activities, and implement corrective and performance improvement plans.
Review and monitor Court Ordered Treatment (COT) compliance and facilitate related documentation.
Maintain a caseload and schedule of member appointments.
Document all services thoroughly in medical records using approved forms and electronic systems.
Mentor new staff members on psychiatric care and job performance expectations.
Participate in recruiting, retention, and promote recovery model principles and engagement skills.
Represent the agency in community, professional forums, and government agencies.
Inform the Vice President of IHHS of relevant issues and recommend procedural changes.
Coordinate with health plans and provider organizations.
Participate in health plan meetings as invited.
Provide culturally competent services.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications And Competencies
Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathy with Psychiatry specialization.
Licensed in Arizona; completed psychiatric residency.
Valid DEA certification.
Minimum 3 years post-doctoral experience in mental health treatment for children, adolescents, and seriously mentally ill adults.
Management experience required.
Must have or be eligible for a Level 1 fingerprint card.
Current CPR/First Aid certification.
Valid driver’s license and auto insurance in Arizona.
Proven leadership across multiple services and locations, supervising multiple direct reports.
Strong leadership, communication, and diversity commitment.
Bilingual Spanish/English preferred but not required.
Additional competencies include effective interaction with diverse populations, time management, proactive management, problem-solving, and excellent communication skills.
