Columbus Behavioral Center for Children and Adolescents is a 56-bed, private residential behavioral health facility located in Columbus, Indiana -just 45 minutes south of Indianapolis . Set on 6.5 fully-fenced acres, our secure and therapeutic environment is designed to support the mental health needs of male and female youth ages 8-18 .
We are currently seeking a full-time Medical Director to lead our child and adolescent psychiatry services . This is a rewarding opportunity for a compassionate, experienced psychiatrist to make a lasting impact in a supportive, multidisciplinary care environment.
Position Highlights:
Role: Medical Director, Child and Adolescent Residential Treatment Program
Location: Full Time On-site, or hybrid with some tele-psychiatry: Columbus Behavioral Center, Columbus, Indiana
Schedule: Full-time; Employed or Independent Contractor
Treatment Settings: Residential and Intensive Outpatient (IOP) Programs
Responsibilities Include:
Leadership and oversight of psychiatric treatment services
Supervision of staff PMHNPs
Participation in clinical call rotation
Collaboration with clinical and administrative teams
Ensure compliance with UHS policies and healthcare regulations
Contribute to the strategic planning and program development
Qualifications:
Active Indiana medical license or eligibility to obtain
MD or DO from an accredited medical school
Board Certified in Psychiatry ( Child & Adolescent Psychiatry preferred)
3-5 years of clinical psychiatric experience required
Leadership experience in a psychiatric or behavioral health setting preferred
Ability to supervise Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (PMHNPs)
Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills

At Columbus Behavioral Center, we provide evidence-based residential treatment for youth ages 8 to 18 facing serious behavioral health challenges, substance use disorders, and frequent psychiatric hospitalizations. Our family-focused programs deliver individualized care plans, trauma-informed therapy, and 24/7 clinical support to help youth achieve emotional stability and behavioral change.
Specialized Programming Includes:
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Residential Program for girls ages 12-18
Structured clinical programming focused on reducing self-harm, suicidal ideation, and impulsive behaviors
Average length of stay: 3 to 9 months, tailored to individual progress
We work closely with families and community partners to ensure a successful transition back home or into an appropriate level of continued care.
