Summary
SUMMARY: The Medical Director of John George Psychiatric Hospital is responsible for the coordination and oversight of all medical care provided at the hospital and is identified as the operational leader of the department to ensure delivery of safe, timely, high-value, equitable care. The Medical Director works with department Lead Physicians to oversee providers and clinical personnel who report to them and have responsibility for clinical and operational processes and outcomes within the department. Given the dual administrative and operational responsibilities, the Medical Director JGPH will have a dual reporting relationship to both the Chair of Psychiatry and the CAO of JGPH.
DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: NOTE: Following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual in the classification.
Provides minimum of 0.5 FTE clinical services.
Leads in the capacity of the Medical Director for John George Psychiatric Hospital by leading physician services specific to acute psychiatric care.
Liaison with Alameda County Healthcare Services Agency, Behavioral Healthcare Services, Office of Patients' Rights and other health system partners to coordinate care and resources in service to our patient population.
Maintains an awareness of daily operations of relevant clinical areas through regular in-person leadership rounding.
Oversees productivity and practice of Leads in IP, PES, Consult Liaison, OPBH, and new service lines.
Provides or designates daily oversight of clinical operations, especially as related to patient throughput and patient experience.
Collaborates with leaders on identifying, evaluating, and addressing situations that increase the risk of employee injury and illness. Advises the facility on policies related to the health and safety of staff, visitors, and volunteers.
Assures that the facility complies with all utilization review and case management requirements of Alameda County, AHS, and all payers.
Collaborates with the JGPH Department Chair and on strategic and clinical alignment.
Communicates and collaborates regularly with the Department Chair, administrator, the director of nursing, on strategic and clinical alignment and provides leadership needed to achieve medical care goals.
Participates in licensure and compliance surveys and interacts with outside regulatory agencies.
Organizes and coordinates physician services and services provided by other professionals as they relate to patient care.
Ensures adequate documentation of patient care and related information within physician services.
Receives and reviews identified patient care concerns and ensures both resolution as well as appropriate, effective corrective actions are implemented.
Uses administrative time to participate, as requested, in organizational committees, task forces, etc. subject to availability and agreement with Department Chair/designee.
Develops, reviews, and/or conducts personnel management for relevant physicians and APPs, in concert with the Department Chair.
Collaborates with Chief Medical Officer and Department Chair, ensures adequate clinical access to services; this includes evaluating and ensuring provider-level productivity, including clinic templates and empanelment, monitoring access standards, and ensuring compliance with state and federal benchmarks, and ensuring adequate coverage for provider leave & absences.
Ensures the overall quality of care provided including adherence to best practices, AHS policies & procedures, and achieving publicly reported and system quality metrics.
Serves on AHS medical and administrative committees as requested.
Advises and supports local managers and supervisors to ensure excellent medical services, patient experience, and quality of care.
Partners with operational leadership in the annual budget process and capital expenditure process.
Acts as local physician administrator for audits, accreditation, licensing, responding to patient feedback, and improvement programs.
Performs other duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.
Required Education: Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy.
Required Licenses/Certifications: Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology; current, valid and unrestricted license to practice Psychiatry in accordance with the laws of the State of California.
Required Licenses/Certifications: Valid DEA registration.
Required Licenses/Certifications: Provider in good standing in the Medicare and Medicaid programs; compliance with Board mandated education and training to maintain State licensure and board certification, and good standing with their health care facility's Medical Staff with appropriate privileges granted in accordance with the Medical Staff Bylaws.
Required Experience: Three years of clinical leadership/managerial experience in the field of Psychiatry with experience as a practicing clinician or clinical leader and substantial experience in an administrative capacity in an accredited hospital or medical center.
Pay Range: $96.70 - $161.16 / Hour
The pay range for this position reflects the base pay scale for the role at Alameda Health System. Final compensation will be determined based on several factors, including but not limited to a candidate's experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, departmental equity, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and the operational needs of the organization.
