The Marketing Director - Defense owns the growth strategy for our client's most consistently high-performing business division. This role functions as the strategic marketing lead for the Military & Defense segment, accountable for defining, positioning, and executing a value proposition that drives revenue growth, margin expansion, and long-term customer value in this high-priority vertical.
Location: Cleveland, onsite 4 days, 1 day wfh
Salary: $90-125K
Essential Job Functions:
Responsibilities that must be completed:
Own the Military & Defense value proposition; ensure differentiation and alignment to customer priorities
Drive total solution development tailored to Military & Defense requirements
Oversee brand awareness, lead generation, and engagement programs in the category
Equip Sales with enablement tools, training, and performance metrics for Military & Defense accounts Develop segment-specific sales enablement tools and channel-facing programs that activate distributor interest and focus in the Military & Defense vertical
Tailor messaging, playbooks, and engagement models that position our client as a preferred partner in the defense space, even among distributors whose core focus is broader industrial markets
Coordinate with Sales team to deliver scalable programming that drives attention, preference, and share of wallet
Lead ongoing market research and segmentation to identify growth opportunities
Build direct relationships with key military procurement stakeholders
Maintain competitor and contracting trend intelligence
Integrate risk management and compliance into market strategy
Align market development efforts with our client's growth objectives
Other duties as assigned
Metric Measurements: Pipeline Contribution: quality and volume of leads/opportunities generated in the Military & Defense segment
Distributor Sales Growth: revenue performance of key Defense brands across prioritized channel partners
Segment Sales Performance: direct or influenced growth in Military & Defense sales
Program Activation: # of distributors engaged in Defense-focused campaigns, promotions, or enablement initiatives
Non-Essential Job Functions: Other responsibilities not required to successfully do job Other duties as assigned
Training: Provided on the job and supplemented with external seminars/classes as needed.
Qualifications: Education & Certifications: Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or related field (or equivalent experience)
Experience: 10+ years in market/category development, business development, or strategic marketing-ideally in high-stakes B2B sectors.
Direct experience in Military defense is strongly preferred.
Up to 50% travel may be required.

Customer-centric orientation: grounded in VOC, end-user needs, and stakeholder insight
