NOTE: This role is hybrid and requires working in the office (Alexandria, VA) 2 days every other week . Travel is required (up to 15% of the year) for meetings and events, including travel to WEF's annual conference, WEFTEC.
How This Position Contributes to the Team
This role encompasses the management of IS/IT infrastructure, external web, and internal software tools and services such as our CRM, marketing automation platform, membership portal, enterprise data, analytics and Artificial Intelligence software. The Managing Director, Information Technology/Digital Engagement (MD, IT/DE) will work closely with the Executive Director, Chief Financial Officer and other senior leaders to develop and implement strategies that enhance our digital capabilities and improve member engagement. The MD, IT/DE will be responsible for leading and delivering the digital & IT transformation of our organization to include our digital platforms and channels and expand our ability to engage national and international audiences.
Provide strategic input across the organization and manage the IT/digital department to build a capable and well-rounded team, drive technological decisions that align with WEF's strategic goals, and oversee departmental budgets to ensure resources are effectively allocated to support key initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
IS/IT Infrastructure : Oversee the governance, procurement, development, implementation, and maintenance of the organization's IS/IT infrastructure, ensuring it supports current operations and future growth. Develop and implement IT strategies that support the organization's overall mission and objectives. Implement technology solutions that enhance operational efficiency and support program efforts
External Web : Manage and enhance the organization's website functionality, ensuring it is user-friendly, up-to-date, and aligned with our brand and mission.
Internal Software Tools and Services : Oversee the selection, implementation, and management of internal software tools and services, including CRM, marketing automation platform, membership portal, data warehouse, and AI software tools.
Development of Digital Strategy & Roadmap : The MD, IT/DE is responsible for budget management, ensuring that all technology expenditures are aligned with the organization's financial plans. The MD, IT/DE implements best practices across the organization, fostering an environment of continuous improvement. Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and execute a comprehensive digital delivery strategy that aligns with the WEF's mission and goals, driving digital innovation and transformation. Implements digital solutions that enhance sales and engagement with WEFs membership. Developing and executing technology roadmaps and strategies is a crucial aspect of their role, guiding the organization through digital transformation initiatives and positioning it for future success. Oversee digital initiatives and ensure their integration with overall business strategies. Manage IS/IT infrastructure, including hardware, software, and networks.
Team Leadership : Lead, develop and mentor a team of digital and IS/IT professionals, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Leads with a digital mindset to impact the culture of innovation and continuous improvement within WEF. Lead a team that integrates ethical, responsible and sustainable AI technologies to automate processes, improve operations and increase efficiency.
Cyber Security & Risk : Cyber security and risk management are critical responsibilities for an MD, IT/DE. The role is tasked with developing and maintaining business continuity plans to ensure the organization can recover quickly from disruptions. Protecting the IS/IT environment from cyber security threats is a top priority, which involves managing and adjusting risk factors regularly. The MD, IT/DE also oversees compliance with security standards such as PCI and NIST, ensuring that all measures are up-to-date and effective. Ensure the security and compliance of IT systems and data.
Stakeholder Collaboration : Work closely with senior leaders, department heads, and external partners to ensure digital initiatives are aligned with organizational priorities and deliver measurable results. Leads collaborative efforts with cross-functional teams to map and transition analog processes to digital ones. Collaborate with other stakeholder's executives to align technological initiatives within WEF.
Budget Management : Develop and manage the department's budget, ensuring resources are allocated effectively and projects are delivered on time and within budget.
Performance Metrics : Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of departmental initiatives and make data-driven decisions. Measure the ROI of digital/IS/IT projects and adjust strategies accordingly based on the data and feedback from stakeholders.
Detailed Responsibilities: Management & Communication: The MD, IT/DE oversee the general operations of the IS/IT department, ensuring that all systems and processes run smoothly. They facilitate effective business communications, acting as a bridge between technical teams and business leaders. This includes participating in staff and leadership meetings to provide updates and strategic insights. Additionally, they are responsible for preparing comprehensive activity and strategy reports, detailing progress and identifying areas for improvement. Champion the use of digital technologies and practices across the organization through partnerships with all key stakeholders.
Vendor, App, & License Management : The MD, IT/DE manages relationships with IS/IT and digital vendors, overseeing contracts and ensuring that services meet the organization's needs. This includes managing access and software licenses to ensure compliance and optimal usage. They also monitor the consumption of applications and services, ensuring that the organization gets the best value from its investments and that resources are allocated efficiently.
Productivity & Performance : Enhancing productivity and performance is a key focus area. The MD, IT/DE manages support services for both staff and customers, ensuring that service level agreements (SLAs) are defined and met, and performance metrics are tracked and analyzed. They also provide training and mentorship to staff, helping to build a knowledgeable and capable team that can support the organization's goals. Oversee IS/IT & Digital projects and manage the budget.
Data Governance : Establishing and enforcing data governance policies is a fundamental responsibility of the MD, IT/DE. They integrate business processes with technological solutions, ensuring seamless operations and compliance with established standards. This includes creating and maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs) and documentation. The MD, IT/DE also ensures that the organization adheres to data privacy and protection regulations, safeguarding sensitive information, and maintaining trust.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in applicable field (Master's degree preferred).
15+ years of experience in digital space and leadership role and IT, preferably within a not-for-profit or membership-based organization.
7+ years of experience within people leadership.
Strong knowledge of IS/IT infrastructure, web development, marketing automation, and internal software tools and services (Salesforce).
Excellent strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Strong leadership and team management abilities.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and build strong relationships.
This person will work primarily in an office environment using standard office equipment.
