The Marine Systems division is part of our client’s globally operating group. With a strong focus on the maritime industry, this division specializes in the development, manufacturing, and supply of advanced wastewater treatment systems, marine grease separators, drainage systems, and pump solutions for commercial ships, cruise vessels, naval ships, and offshore platforms.

The company works closely with shipyards, ship owners, and naval architects worldwide to ensure efficient water management on board.

Job Description

The Managing Director will lead the company’s commercial and operational activities with a strong focus on driving sustainable sales growth, enhancing profitability, and building our client's brand worldwide. As the top executive in the organization, the MD is responsible for setting a clear strategic direction and managing key stakeholder relationships.

This position is fully remote and can be based from anywhere within Europe.

Marine industry experience is essential for this role. Only candidates with a substantial, demonstrable marine track record will proceed in the process.

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the company’s short- and long-term strategy to grow market share and improve profit margins.
  • Lead business development initiatives, identify growth opportunities, and expand into new markets or customer segments together with Head of Sales.
  • Set ambitious but achievable sales targets in alignment with company capabilities and market conditions.
  • Support and challenge the Head of Sales to improve pipeline management, conversion rates, and key account performance.
  • Monitor company profitability and ensure with Head of Sales pricing strategies reflect market value and cost structures.

Operational Oversight

  • Ensure that operational processes (from production to delivery) are efficient, cost-effective, and aligned with customer expectations.
  • Challenge Head of Operations that supply chain and quality assurance is compliant with marine and environmental regulations.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Operations to drive improvements in manufacturing, delivery timelines, and customer satisfaction.

Team Leadership and Development

  • Lead, motivate, and develop a team of employees, including 5 direct reports.
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and performance-driven culture.
  • Ensure the leadership team is aligned, empowered, and equipped to deliver departmental goals.

Marketing and Brand Management

  • Work closely with the Marketing and Sales to strengthen brand awareness and differentiation in the market.
  • Guide the development of marketing strategies that support lead generation and conversion.
  • Collaborate with Finance to monitor budgets, cash flow, and profitability.
  • Ensure financial reporting is accurate and timely.

Requirements

  • Proven track record in managing sales-driven organizations (preferably in technical sectors)
  • Strong commercial acumen and strategic thinking
  • Effective leadership and team-building capabilities
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Understanding of operational and financial performance levers
  • Knowledge of the marine industry is a strong advantage
