The CUNY School of Medicine (CUNY SoM) located in the heart of Harlem, New York, is the only medical school in the City University of New York system and the only public medical school in Manhattan. Building upon 50 years of success as the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education, the institution transitioned to the CUNY School of Medicine (SoM) in 2016. The CUNY SoM offers an accelerated BS/MD degree (7-year program) and a Physician Assistant Master's Degree (27 months program). The Institutional Research Director - Business Intelligence will lead the development and implementation of business intelligence strategies to empower end users with the data needed to inform decision-making across the institution. This role involves developing dashboards and reports, consulting with departments to meet their data reporting needs, and ensuring data integrity and security. In addition to the summary, the Institutional Research Director - Business Intelligence will be responsible for but not limited to the following:
Develop and implement a strategic roadmap for school-wide business intelligence, to facilitate data-informed decision making in all aspects of the school's operations; Design and manage business intelligence tools and systems, including data dashboards, visualization, and reporting tools. Collaborate with various departments to understand their data reporting needs and provide tailored solutions. Partner with executives and department leaders to identify and prioritize reporting and data analysis needs. Work with cross-functional teams to gather and interpret business requirements, ensure that BI strategies align with institutional goals, and meet accreditation and compliance requirements. Implement a Self-Service BI platform to empower departments to independently access and analyze data; Identify opportunities to reduce manual work through automation and streamline reporting workflows. Maintain thorough documentation of processes, workflows, and technical solutions to support institutional knowledge retention; Ensure the accuracy, consistency, and security of data used in BI tools and reports; Ensure that report availability adheres to CUNY-wide and school-wide data access policies. Continuous Improvement: Remain current with advancements in BI technology and implement best practices. Design and deliver training sessions for faculty, staff, and advisors, focusing on practical use cases to maximize the impact of academic technology tools; Conduct workshops, webinars, and office hours to provide regular updates and address user questions. Drive end user adoption by providing training and ensuring the platform meets diverse departmental needs; Create and maintain self-service resources such as user guides, FAQs, and video tutorials for widespread and efficient user support. Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean of Institutional Effectiveness and Assessment or designee. QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree and eight years' relevant experience required.
Preferred: Master's degree in Business, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related field. Eight to ten years of experience in business intelligence, data analysis, reporting, or a related field in higher education. Proficiency in Microsoft 365 BI tools and languages (Power BI, Power Automate, DAX, M), and SQL. Strong understanding of data governance and security practices. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to shift perspective from individual needs to school-wide needs and processes. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present data findings to non-technical stakeholders. Proven ability to work effectively with various departments to identify and meet their data reporting needs. Knowledge of institutional research practices and standards. Knowledge of CUNY First architecture and reporting practices. Experience working with student learning data from Learning Management Systems (LMS) and other systems. CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW
Directs institutional research programs and contributes to academic program planning, evaluation, and other activities related to the College's mission. Works collaboratively with senior management on issues of assessment, including general institutional effectiveness and measures of student success and learning. Designs and oversees research efforts with an institutional scope and assists departments and offices with focused research needs. Coordinates program reviews and accreditation reporting. Manages institutional research data systems and other resources. Maintains standard management information and official statistics for internal and external reporting. Develops procedures to support analytical, planning, and assessment functions in student and academic areas. Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Salary Range: $83,878 - $141,858
Salary commensurate with education and experience.

CUNY is in the process of implementing salary schedule increases. Once implemented, salaries of eligible employees will be adjusted by 3.25% effective 9/1/2025 and 3.5% effective 9/1/26, in accordance with the terms of the PSC-CUNY collective bargaining agreement.
