Job Description Summary

The Strategic Partnership team strengthens relationships to align technology with organizational goals and empower stakeholders. The IT Director role serves as the strategic partner to Wharton administrative units, advocates for stakeholder needs, leads planning and execution of technology initiatives, and ensures technology aligns with goals. The role involves analyzing business processes, leading change management, and promoting adoption of new technologies. Current projects include re-platforming a critical MBA Career Management application and its evolution into the Wharton Experience Coordinator, and representing Wharton Computing on the Slate Graduate Admissions implementation team.
Job Description
Primary responsibilities of this role are:
Strategic Business Relationship Management
Maintain a high degree of visibility within assigned departments, participate in staff meetings as appropriate.
Cultivate strong relationships with departmental leaders and stakeholders to ensure technology solutions support business goals.
Develop a deep understanding of business processes and staff roles within the administrative units.
Technology Strategy, Design, and Consulting
Advise on technology options, risks, costs vs. benefits, and impacts on products, services, and business processes.
Map and document key business processes; identify opportunities to improve processes through technology.
Analyze technology trends to support School goals.
Lead and participate in cross-departmental projects to ensure seamless delivery and IT integration.
Manage vendor relationships as appropriate.
Oversee resolution of escalated stakeholders' technology issues.
Strategic Planning
Participate in short- and long-term strategic planning and understand the department’s direction.
Identify opportunities and develop recommendations to support desired future state.
Advocacy
Advocate for technological needs of assigned departments and lead cross-departmental initiatives to align with organizational objectives.
Represent technology vision within administrative departments and promote technology services.
Represent department strategies and issues within Wharton Computing and document business knowledge of technology processes.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five to seven years of IT experience, preferably in higher education, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Qualifications
Experience in strategic planning, business development, management, and client engagement.
Strong service commitment and delivery.
Demonstrated leadership, diplomacy, and relationship-building skills.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication and presentation skills.
Problem-solving, mediation, and negotiation skills.
Strong technology foundation and understanding of the evolving landscape.
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with ITIL and/or ITSM.
Prior experience in Higher Education preferred.
