The Indiana Market Medical Director plays a crucial role in enhancing patient care and operational efficiency within the Deaconess Physician Enterprise and Health System. This leadership position focuses on fostering collaboration between clinical teams and administrative leadership to ensure the delivery of high-quality care across the Indiana Market, including Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center. Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer, the Medical Director provides strategic medical guidance, facilitates communication, and champions initiatives aimed at improving patient outcomes while managing costs effectively.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead efforts to implement patient-centered medical care strategies, including developing practice protocols and guidelines for chronic disease management, health maintenance, and preventive services.
Collaborate with operational leadership to formulate and execute patient care strategies that align with Deaconess's mission and ensure clinical and economic sustainability.
Assist in the recruitment, onboarding, and evaluation of physicians and advanced practice providers (APPs) within the Indiana Market.
Monitor and support providers in achieving quality metrics, patient satisfaction goals, and productivity targets.
Provide mentorship and support to physicians to enhance their professional growth and integration into the medical group.
Contribute to long-term vision and strategic direction, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and values.
Ensure compliance with clinical, administrative, and regulatory policies, including medical record completion, clinical care appropriateness, and coding standards.
Oversee risk management activities related to medical malpractice and patient safety concerns.
Act as a liaison with key stakeholders within Deaconess Health System, fostering collaboration and alignment with system-wide goals.
Represent Deaconess Clinic and Memorial Hospital at leadership meetings and committees, influencing operational decisions and direction.
Lead the Network Operating Committee physician governance structure of the Memorial medical group.
Direct Reports: The Medical Director oversees quality improvement, clinical performance improvement, and compliance activities for Deaconess Clinic, working closely with a dyad partner, the Regional Vice President of Ambulatory Practices. This role involves validating and communicating performance metrics to drive continuous improvement in patient care and operational efficiency.
Qualifications:
Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree with board certification in a specialty relevant to primary care or internal medicine.
Experience in a medical director or leadership role within a healthcare system.
Active medical license in the state of Indiana (or ability to obtain).
Minimum of 5 years of clinical practice experience, with demonstrated leadership and management capabilities.
Strong understanding of healthcare operations, quality improvement methodologies, and regulatory requirements.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Knowledge of Epic electronic health record system or similar EMR platforms.
Demonstrated success in physician recruitment, practice acquisitions, or new program development.
