SUMMARY:
The Faith Formation Director implements, facilitates and conducts faith formation and education activities and programs for adults and children in the parish while serving as contact and resource person for other small groups. The director has designated responsibilities for faith formation/education, development, sacramental preparation, administration and pastoral care. The Faith Formation Director is a catechetical leader who shares his/her faith with the parish and is responsible for the oversight, creation, organization, and administration in all areas of parish faith formation.
Current Duties and Responsibilities of the Faith Formation Director:
A. Faith Formation and Evangelization
Develops a coordinated approach to faith formation and evangelization with the pastor. Helps establish and implement a faith formation and evangelization vision statement and goals that are parish-specific. Helps evaluate and update yearly. The ideal program is influenced by:Church documents that aim faith formation toward personal conversion, active membership in the Church, and the transformation of society,Church documents that outline the six fundamental tasks of catechesis: knowledge of the faith, worship, morality, prayer, community life, and evangelization.needs and preferences of parishioners,current research and best practices, andalignment with the parish’s overall vision and goals.
Directs comprehensive child, youth, and young adult ministry programs based on the parish’s faith formation and evangelization goals.
Directs the parish’s Family Faith Formation Program
Directs adult ministry programs as assigned by the pastor
Directs sacramental preparation programs including First Reconciliation, First Eucharist, older children and youth seeking First Reconciliation and/or First Eucharist, youth Confirmation, OCIA with adults, adult Confirmation, and infant Baptism
Prepares sacramental liturgies with pastor and Directors of Liturgy and Music
Collaborates with the pastor and the Directors of Liturgy and Music to assure that worship is integrated into faith formation and faith formation into worship
Collaborates with the pastor to organize annual Lenten Missions and other parish-wide faith formation events
Responds to persons with special needs
Provides opportunities for parent engagement and dialog to strengthen their role as primary catechists of their children and youth and enrich family life
Recruits, screens, trains, coordinates, supports, enriches, and recognizes catechists and other volunteers. Including facilitating their personal faith growth and developing a learning community
Coordinates Catechetical Sunday with the pastor and Directors of Liturgy and Music
Seeks out and welcomes new and less active families with children and youth, young adults, and adults into the parish
Responds to inquiries of families with children and youth, young adults, and adults who are interested in the Catholic faith
Develops and promotes evangelization programs and formation opportunities for all parishioners
Selects appropriate faith formation and evangelization resources based on the US Catholic Conference of Bishops and Diocesan guidelines
Communicates regularly with those involved in faith formation and evangelization, with the parish, and with the community, including through the website and social media
B. Administration
Establishes and updates job description and goals, with the pastor and the parish business manager, that are aligned with the faith formation parish goals, including a continuing education plan
Ensures compliance with the Diocesan Safe Environment requirements and Code of Pastoral Conduct documents. Ensures compliance with other Diocesan / National / Universal policies and documents
Creates operating procedures for key aspects of the position
Maintains accurate records (attendance, sacraments, etc.)
Proposes and manages a budget with the Pastor, Parish Accountant and the Parish Business Manager
Maintains faith formation supplies
Maintains faith formation spaces
Participates in staff meetings, activities, and shared responsibilities
Acts as a resource for the Pastoral Council, staff, parents, parish, and community regarding faith formation and evangelization
Visibly engages in principal parish events
Participates in Diocesan meetings and activities related to faith formation
Participates in ecumenical meetings and activities in the community
Invests in partnerships among school and community organizations to promote positive family development
Performs other duties as assigned by the pastor
QUALIFICATIONS - THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
Understands and supports mission and purpose of the church and parish
Practicing Catholic and parish member
Ability to articulate Catholic theology in light of the Second Vatican Council
Has good understanding of faith formation and evangelization methodologies
Has proficiency in computer skills including word-processing, budgeting, and communication
Is able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
Recognizes and honors diversity within the community
Has a Bachelor’s Degree with a major in Religious Education or its equivalent
Is eligible for Advanced Religious Education Certification
Is eligible for compliance with Diocesan Safe Environment requirements
Has two years or more experience in a church or parochial school setting as a teacher, administrator, or catechist
Has strong interpersonal skills
Shows skills in coordinating activities, establishing priorities and collaboration with others
Maintains a high level of confidentiality
Adheres to the Diocese of Palm Beach Code of Conduct
Complies with the required Diocesan background check and Safe Environments screening
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Occasional light lifting and carrying of under 25 pounds
Frequent use both hands and fingers (i.e. typing and reaching)
Occasional periods of standing, sitting, kneeling and climbing
Occasional periods of extended sitting or standing
Occasional ability of minimal hearing (i.e. loud noises, sirens) and routine hearing (i.e. listening to others in conversation)
Close vision required for paperwork and computer.
Able to utilize computer keyboard, monitor, and telephone.
Occasional routine talking
Occasional time spent working closely with others
