San Diego FC is looking for an experienced marketer to lead our marketing team and strategy for the Club’s continued growth and increasing relevance. POSITON San Diego FC has laid the foundation for a special MLS franchise to be a positive part of the San Diego community, and to be the benchmark in holistic youth talent development through its new Right to Dream Academy. Building on this start requires a strong brand that delivers something unique and powerful to bring all stakeholders along for the long term. This role also requires well-planned, targeted, and commercially driven marketing to deliver revenue for the business. There are already excellent brand assets in place, including the people, the positioning and community relationships. These assets need to be continuously inspired and organized for maximum positive impact and translated into commercial success. RESPONSIBILITIES The EVP of Marketing must have experience as an Integrated Marketing Leader . By Integrated , we mean will prioritize the candidates that have experience across all aspects of the marketing spectrum. At a minimum, the candidate must have experience marketing to various cohorts for the purchase of tickets to an event (willing to do the hard and technical work of funnel management). The candidate must have experience putting on an event in a compelling way for all fans. And the candidate must understand how to build a brand. By Leader, we mean someone who has proven experience building, managing and developing a marketing staff that directly reports to them. The candidate must align with our values and the values of Right to Dream, including a commitment to Safeguarding principles and screening. Leadership & management Adopt and evolve SDFC’s marketing strategy Recruit, develop, and manage the marketing team Provide ongoing feedback and professional development for staff Interface with all stakeholders, including executive leadership, the Board and Ownership Operational excellence Adopt and evolve SDFC’s Integrated Marketing Plan Deliver on commercial goals of the club – attendance, revenue, margin Manage the marketing budget – forecasting, monitoring, adjusting and making financially Build the brand in conjunction with ownership and management Build a large audience for the club with whom SDFC can be in a regular dialogue Manage the audience through a marketing funnel enabling SDFC to understand the life cycle of a prospect and effectively manage over time and by cohort Coordinate all aspects of marketing – brand, comms, paid, earned/PR, community and more Build relationships with and support the commercial team – ticket sales, group sales, single game sales and sponsorship sales. Organize regular meetings to operationalize the strategy, monitor delivery and foster Integrate with SDFC’s culture and values Foster a psychologically safe environment focused on learning and development Create a collaborative culture integrating marketing with all aspects of the business Promote open communication among the marketing team and the club REPORTING & RELATIONSHIPS This role reports to the COO and directly manages the VP of Marketing, the SVP of Brand, Community & Communication, and the SVP of Performance Marketing. These functions oversee a total team of 15- 20 individuals. As part of the SDFC leadership team, you will work especially close with the CEO, Head of Operations and Head of Commercial Sales. Additionally, you will work with SDFC’s 1st team, SDFC’s RTD Academy, SDFC fans, supporter groups, vendors and sponsors, RTD’s Global Brand & Marketing leaders, Board of Directors, Partners, and Ownership, MLS, USSF, and other MLS and Mexican Football Clubs. QUALIFICATIONS Candidates may meet the requirements for this role with a combination of the following education and experience: BS or BA in Business, Marketing or related field of study. Minimum 10 years marketing experience Minimum 5 years integrated marketing experience in a leadership role Experience selling tickets preferably in a professional US Sports Team environment Stakeholder management to board level Proven team leader in a changing business environment Creative and Media management experience Integrated marketing planning expertise, across all marketing levers Proven ability in commercially driven marketing plans, preferable within a Major League sports environment Product marketing expertise, preferably in a pro sports franchise, or potentially in the entertainment industry Media planning and buying experience Ability to manage brand messaging across the full marketing mix Long term strategic marketing planning skill set Short term tactical marketing execution knowledge Relevant experience in these areas is strongly desired but not required: sports, ticket selling, consumer marketing, San Diego market knowledge, MLS experience, soccer sensibility, managing stakeholders including the Board and club owners.
