Mission: The First Peoples’ Community Center (FPCC) is a community-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that is responsive to the needs of Native American/Indigenous people in the City of Fort Collins and the surrounding area. The purpose is to support the community to connect to each other and to the land and its inhabitants. FPCC will create a forum to identify and illuminate traditional values and support healthy traditional lifestyles in balance with the modern world. We seek to foster a community that is resilient, respectful, inclusive and recognizes the diversity of Native America. Position Summary: FPCC is a startup nonprofit organization in need of someone who can develop programs and services for the Native American community of northern Colorado. The Director has the primary responsibility for leadership of FPCC. The Director oversees the business operations of the organization, including fundraising, strategic planning, staff development, facility maintenance, and all aspects of services and programming. This position reports to the FPCC Board of Directors. This is a salaried, exempt position with flexibility for a full or half time role. A successful candidate will lead the growth of the Center, responding to evolving community needs and working to build close, collaborative relationships with community partners to support the Native American community in the region. Essential Duties and Responsibilities : Organizational and Program Operation: ● Oversee and coordinate the day-to-day operations of the organization ● Collaboratively develop and implement cultural, educational, and other programs, based on input and needs of regional Native American community ● Oversee and support any staff or volunteers, including compliance with personnel policies and legal requirements; hiring, interviewing, training, evaluations; addressing complaints and resolving issues ● Oversee and manage routine maintenance of building, grounds, and equipment, including repairs; ensures safety and cleanliness of facility Fiscal Management and Resource Development: ● Manage organizational and grant budgets using sound financial practices ● Maintain regular communication with FPCC Board on budget planning and reporting, and overall financial strategy ● Identify and pursue development opportunities, including grants and fundraising efforts ● Track grants and contracts to ensure compliance with funder requirements ● Oversee agreements with contractors and community partners ● Ensure compliance with legal requirements associated with federal 501(c)(3) and state non-profit status Collaboration and Relationship Development ● Engage with regional Native American community by attending community events/meetings, partnering effectively with other Native organizations, developing positive relationships with community leaders, and maintaining regular communication and outreach ● Identify and build meaningful relationships with potential partners/collaborators and donors. ● Advocate for FPCC’s mission and programs by acting as a representative for the community, informally and through official channels, such as the City of Fort Collins and Colorado Commission of Indian Affairs ● Work closely with the Board of Directors to ensure effective governance and address challenges, including developing reports and presentations. Strategic Planning: ● Develop and track progress on the organization’s strategic plan, in collaboration with the board ● Engage in regular program evaluation to improve the quality of programs Required Qualifications: ● Demonstrated experience working with urban and/or rural Native American/Indigenous communities ● Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, preferable in a related field ● At least 3 year’s experience in leadership/management role ● Proven success in budget management, strategic planning, fundraising, and grant development Desired Additional Qualifications: ● Demonstrated cultural competence to effectively interact, work, and develop meaningful relationships with people of diverse identities, perspectives and cultural backgrounds ● Bachelor’s or graduate degree in a related field ● At least 5 year’s experience in leadership/management role in a non-profit environment ● Strong problem-solving, conflict resolution, and communication skills ● Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Office; Adobe; accounting, payroll and data security programs; and internet-based communication platforms for website design, etc. ● Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trusting relationships Physical Demands and Other Requirements: To successfully perform the essential functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to perform moderate physical activity both inside and outdoors. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. FPCC adheres to requirements set forth by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Schedule is flexible, with some weekends and evenings required. Position is located in Fort Collins, CO, with frequent in-person meetings and events. Successful applicants will be required to relocate to the Fort Collins vicinity with a mutually agreeable period of time.
