The New York City Employees’ Retirement System (NYCERS) is seeking a transformational and visionary Executive Director to lead one of the largest public employee retirement systems in the United States, serving approximately , active and retired members. This is a critical executive role for a seasoned leader with deep expertise in pension fund administration, strategic operations, and high-impact public service delivery.
The Executive Director serves in alignment with NYCERS’ values of excellence, respect, integrity and collaboration as the chief executive officer of NYCERS, reporting directly to the Board of Trustees. This individual will provide enterprise-wide leadership across a workforce of more than employees and will be responsible for the strategic direction, operational execution, and fiduciary stewardship of the agency.
-Provide strategic, operational, and fiduciary leadership of NYCERS in alignment with applicable laws, regulations, and best governance practices - Direct all facets of agency operations, ensuring integrity, transparency, and optimal service delivery to members and stakeholders - Lead the organization through an ambitious, multi-year technology modernization effort, with a focus on business process transformation, data integration, and service innovation - Oversee the agency’s financial management, including budget development, forecasting, and reporting to the Board and other stakeholders - Champion a culture of continuous improvement, data-informed decision making, and measurable performance outcomes - Cultivate strong working relationships with City agencies, labor unions, and elected officials while advancing NYCERS’ strategic goals - Anticipate and mitigate operational and cybersecurity risks through proactive enterprise risk management strategies - Advance equity, inclusion, and organizational excellence through principled leadership and an engaged, mission-driven workforce

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR (NYC EMPLOY -
Minimum Qualifications 1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and six years of progressively responsible experience in the administration of an employees' retirement system of which two years must have been in a responsible managerial or executive capacity; or
2. A satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience. However, all candidates must have high school graduation or evidence of having passed an examination for a high school equivalency diploma and must possess at least two years of experience in a responsible managerial or executive capacity.
Preferred Skills Essential Experience: - Minimum of 10 years in senior executive leadership roles within a public pension system or similarly complex organization - Demonstrated success in overseeing pension administration, budgetary planning, service delivery operations, and performance management - Proven leadership of large-scale systems transformation, particularly in technology and data modernization - Experience managing multi-site operations with a strong emphasis on business continuity and compliance - Expertise in government relations, stakeholder engagement, and navigating complex governance environments Preferred Skills and Experience - Familiarity with New York City’s operational, legal, and regulatory landscape - Experience working directly with or under the oversight of a Board or public governing body Public Service Loan Forgiveness As a prospective employee of the City of New York, you may be eligible for federal loan forgiveness programs and state repayment assistance programs.
