Schedule: Full-Time, Year-Round | Core Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM (1-hour lunch break)
Salary Range: $80,000 - $100,000 annually (commensurate with qualifications and experience)
Required Qualifications
Master's degree in early childhood education (ECE) required.
NY State B-2nd Teaching Certification required.
Experience:
5+ years in ECE teaching, including 2+ years in a leadership role (Assistant Director or higher).
Proven success in improving enrollment rates by 15%+ or achieving NAEYC accreditation.
Experience managing teams of 20+ staff.
Job Summary
As the Certified Education Director, you will be the cornerstone of our preschool's operational and educational success. This role requires a strategic leader with a dual focus: driving measurable outcomes in enrollment, retention, and program quality, while nurturing a child-centered environment that aligns with NYC's DOHMH Article 47/DOE Article 43 standards. You will directly manage a team of educators and support staff, oversee a budget of [specific amount if available], and act as the primary liaison between families, community partners, and district leadership.
Detailed Responsibilities
1. Strategic Leadership & Operational Excellence
Enrollment & Retention: Achieve annual enrollment targets of [specific goal, e.g., 95% capacity] through community outreach, parent tours, and retention strategies (e.g., family engagement events, satisfaction surveys).
Data-Driven Decisions: Utilize enrollment software or media and performance metrics to analyze trends, forecast needs, and submit monthly reports to the owner.
2. Educational Program Management
Curriculum Development: Familiar with Creative Curriculum, Design and implement STEAM/Critical Thinking principles.
Quality Assurance: Conduct weekly classroom observations, provide feedback to teachers, and ensure 100% compliance with developmental milestone tracking tools (e.g., Teaching Strategies GOLD).
3. Team Development & HR Management
Staffing: Directly supervise [number] of full-time/part-time educators and assistants, maintaining a staff-to-child ratio as per DOE guidelines.
Professional Growth: Facilitate monthly PD workshops on topics such as trauma-informed care, anti-bias education, or emergent curriculum design.
Performance Management: Implement a tiered coaching model, including 30-day onboarding plans, quarterly reviews, and PIPs for underperforming staff.
4. Compliance & Safety
Regulatory Adherence: Ensure 100% compliance with DOHMH inspections, including:
Monthly fire drills, emergency evacuation logs.
Staff CPR/First Aid certification renewals and all mandated necessary training update,
Allergy students list update.
Documentation: Maintain digital records for all student files (immunization, enrollment forms...) and all staff files (background checks, mandated training...).
5. Family & Community Engagement
Communication: Lead weekly ClassDojo updates, quarterly parent-teacher conferences, and a biannual Family Literacy Night.
Community Partnerships: Collaborate with local organizations (e.g., Sunset Park Alliance, Brooklyn Public Library) to offer free parenting workshops or subsidized afterschool programs.
6. Summer Camp & Extended Programs
Camp Operations: Manage a 6-7-week summer camp for 80+ children, including:
Hiring and training 15 seasonal staff.
Coordinating field trips (e.g., Brooklyn Children's Museum, Prospect Park Zoo).
Ensuring DOHMH compliance for outdoor activities and water play.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency with childcare management software
Proficiency computer skills and Microsoft office skills and Excel skills for data analysis.
Soft Skills:
Bilingual English/Spanish or English/Mandarin (preferred, given Sunset Park demographics).
Crisis management expertise (e.g., de-escalation techniques, emergency response).
