At Solstice Day School, we integrate a strong, fully accredited academic curriculum with a trauma-informed, therapeutic model of care for students in grades 7 through 12 who have learning, mental health or behavioral health issues. With small class sizes and a student-teacher ratio of 8:1, our highly qualified and clinically supported faculty is able to provide highly differentiated and individualized instruction that meets the needs of each student as outlined in their individualized educational plan (IEP). The Education Director leads development, implementation, and evaluation of efforts related to student academic achievement. In addition, this position oversees school operations and staff and ensures that the programs are providing a superior, safe, proven learning environment for youth and their families. Responsibilities are: 1. Understands student IEP goals provided by local educational district and plans accordingly to ensure that the procedures and schedules are associated with the goals are implemented.
2. Coordinates and oversees the implementation of IEP documents and the process by which the program assesses its own performance in this area.
3. Enhances curriculum and alignment with MA state standards and fulfills all duties associated with MCAS administration or other applicable standardized tests.
4. Works collaboratively with relevant agency partners to ensure the educational component extends outside of the classroom and across agency lines.
5. Ensures that instructional objectives for given subjects are developed; and that the faculty are involved in the development of specific curricular objectives to meet the needs of the individual students and school programs.
6. Coordinates with all participating local school districts in the development and implementation of all instructional programs designed to meet the specific needs of this unique student population.
7. Works collaboratively with the clinical team, teachers, and youth to practice a relationship-based, trauma-informed model.
8. Develops collaborative relationships with local district personnel, educational agencies and state advocacy organizations to ensure that student progress in the instructional setting is achieved and maintained.
9. Ensures compliance with guidelines set by DESE and other licensing agencies.
10. Provides regular supervision for staff and completes annual performance reviews.
11. Ensures all staff is trained in accordance with DESE regulations.
Qualifications: Master in Special Education is required preferred. Requirement for a school administrator (principal or higher) license and the 5 years + of experience.
Experience working with individuals with learning, developmental and/or emotional issues preferred.
Must possess strong planning and implementation skills, a strategic approach, and a good working knowledge of data reporting and analysis skills.
Must demonstrate ability to relate to youth with a diverse culture, backgrounds and needs in a sensitive manner; an interest and willingness to work in a multicultural setting and must share a customer service orientation. Manages difficult or emotional situations; responds promptly to youth needs.
Computer literate in standard desktop applications such as Windows, Word, and Excel
