Job Summary
The Director of Fabrication is accountable for leading and directing all U.S. fabrication operations with a relentless focus on safety, quality, efficiency, and operational excellence. This role is responsible for building a high-performance culture, scaling production capacity, and ensuring fabrication output aligns with project execution needs. Key responsibilities include driving organizational improvement initiatives, strategic planning, staff leadership and development, process optimization, and close collaboration with senior executives. The Director ensures that manufacturing schedules, resources, and vendor partnerships consistently support the timely, cost-effective, and high-quality delivery of projects.
Responsibilities and Duties
Essential Functions:
Develop and implement manufacturing plans, production schedules, and workforce scaling strategies to maximize efficiency, minimize overhead costs, and proactively meet production growth targets, including a multi-year scaling plan.
Oversee the entire fabrication process, ensuring production meets performance, quality, and safety standards.
Implement lean manufacturing and continuous improvement practices to increase throughput, reduce waste, and optimize cost.
Identify and refine manufacturing and organizational procedures to enhance profitability and operational efficiency.
Provide visible leadership and hands-on support in the field to ensure fabrication operations align with project execution requirements.
Collaborate with quality assurance and design teams to ensure products consistently meet specifications.
Enforce safety protocols and maintain compliance with federal, state, and company safety regulations.
Lead by example to reinforce a culture of safety, quality, and operational excellence across all fabrication operations.
Manage vendor relationships to ensure timely delivery of materials and services.
Track, analyze, and report on key performance metrics—including cost per unit, rework percentage, on-time delivery, TRIR, and other KPIs—to drive accountability and continuous improvement.
Direct equipment maintenance, utilization, and layout to support efficient production.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Lead the recruitment, hiring, and training of fabrication team members.
Oversee staff schedules and work assignments to maintain optimal operational flow.
Conduct performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to support professional growth.
Address performance issues and disciplinary actions in accordance with company policy.
Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous development by mentoring and developing leaders and teams through structured training and cross-functional collaboration.
Additional Responsibilities:
Partner with the Chief Operating Officer (COO) to achieve long-term operational goals and integrate new technologies.
Collaborate with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to develop and manage the operational budget for the fabrication division.
Provide regular updates and strategic insights to senior leadership on progress, challenges, and production status.
Identify and facilitate training opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
Qualifications and KSA
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field.
Advanced degree preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in fabrication, construction, manufacturing, or heavy industrial production, including substantial leadership responsibility.
Proven ability to drive a culture of safety, excellence, accountability, and ownership while building, mentoring, and developing a high-performing workforce.
Demonstrated success in implementing Lean and Continuous Improvement programs.
Proven experience in workforce scaling, capacity planning, and proactive forecasting to support business growth.
Strong track record of managing and reporting on key performance metrics.
Extensive experience developing and managing production schedules, budgets, and vendor relationships.
Experience in a construction or self-performing contractor environment preferred.
Familiarity with advanced manufacturing technologies, automation, and data-driven decision-making preferred.
Certifications/Licenses:
Lean, Six Sigma, or Certified Manufacturing Engineer certification preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Comprehensive understanding of fabrication and manufacturing processes, resource planning, and process optimization.
Strong foundation in Lean methodologies, Six Sigma, or similar process improvement frameworks.
Data-driven mindset with the ability to interpret and act on key performance metrics.
Exceptional leadership presence with proven ability to inspire, coach, and develop leaders and teams at all levels.
Excellent organizational and team management skills with a focus on accountability and continuous development.
Proficiency in computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software and other related technology.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration and executive reporting.
Ability to set long-term strategic goals, scale operations, and align team performance to achieve them.
Ability to engage with field teams and project personnel to ensure operational alignment and successful project execution.
Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills in fast-paced, high-growth environments.
Deep knowledge of safety regulations, compliance requirements, and risk management practice.

Tools/Equipment: Standard office equipment (computers, peripherals, and communication devices).
