About the Job: As the Director of Tax you will be a senior member on the Finance team responsible for leading and running the tax function. You will report to the VP, Controller and partner with other finance leaders and cross-functional senior leaders to (1) ensure tax compliance for the company and its Irish subsidiary, (2) assess tax implications of business projects and lead relevant tax implementation strategies, and (3) develop near-term and long-term strategic tax efficiencies. This is a senior-level, hands-on, individual contributor role based in our Brooklyn office. Rent the Runway’s Accounting team works from the office three days per week, typically Tuesday-Thursday. What You’ll Do Manage and facilitate the preparation, review, and filing of company federal and state tax returns Manage the preparation and filing of company sales and use tax returns Prepare income tax returns for the company’s international subsidiaries Prepare VAT returns for the company’s international subsidiaries Manage the calculation and review of quarterly and annual income tax provisions Support audits and liaise with external auditors to address tax inquiries Prepare and review tax disclosures for quarterly and annual filings Lead the preparation and oversight of monthly and quarterly sales tax roll forwards, tax reconciliations and period-end journal entries Manage the tax professional services budget and record accruals as needed Support external tax advisers in responding to examinations from federal, state, and local authorities Manage and support special tax-related projects Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with tax processes Partner with internal departments to provide tax guidance for new business initiatives Review vendor tax forms for accurate withholding tax treatment; advise Accounts Payable and Buying teams Collaborate with Payroll and HR on HR/Equity related tax matters Develop relationships with external tax advisers Monitor legislative and regulatory tax developments and communicate impacts to management About You 10+ years of progressive tax experience Public accounting tax experience or tax consulting experience required Bachelors or advanced degree in accounting or taxation required CPA license required; JD or other licenses preferred International tax experience preferred Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, start-up environment Strong multi-tasking and prioritization skills Detail-oriented self-starter Effective communication with various levels in the organization and with external parties Ability to build connections with outside advisers domestically and internationally Willingness to support broader accounting and legal teams as needed Benefits Paid Time Off including vacation, bereavement, and family sick leave Universal Paid Parental Leave for both parents plus flexible return-to-work program Paid Sabbatical after 5 years of continuous service Exclusive employee subscription and rental discounts Comprehensive health, vision, dental, FSA and dependent care coverage from day 1 401k match Company-wide events and outings Hybrid Work: option to work remotely 3 days a week Rent the Runway is an equal opportunity employer.
