Job Summary
The Director of Surgical Services is responsible for directing, planning, organizing and managing the operations of hospital surgical areas in designated facilities. These responsibilities include financial management; effective and efficient utilization of resources, recruitment and retention of employees; achieving dashboard metrics; performance improvement, revenue growth, and operational efficiency.
This Role will be located at Presbyterian Medical Center, Charlotte Orthopedic Hospital

Responsibilities

Operational: Operates the GCM/GWM surgical areas using appropriate leadership tools that are in compliance with regulatory and organizational policies and procedures. Develops appropriate procedures to ensure patient safety and the highest quality of care. Ensures compliance with all regulations, policies, and procedures. Facilitates the resolution of concerns of customers.
Operates the Surgical arenas as a business unit: Develops budgets. Achieves established revenue targets and appropriately manages expenses to volume. Conducts competitive market research and analysis. Know each market and ensure all Surgical Managers have an intimate knowledge of the market(s) they serve: competition, demographics, trends, geography, physician base, employment base. Develops and implements strategic and surgical transformation plans. Identifies and cross pollinates best practices across the market and system. Plans, assesses, recommends and execute initiatives.
Provides leadership development: Responsible for personnel management, retention, and staff development. Coaches and counsels leaders to hold them accountable for achieving unit goals. Serves as resource for leaders.
Cultivates relationships with stakeholders: Works with all interdisciplinary team members to develop or improve processes around the care of surgical patients. Facilitates effective relationship with staff, physicians, services, and specialties. Visits referring physicians’ offices (groups) to promote services.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree, required;
Masters in Nursing or other related field, preferred.
License/Certifications:
Current RN licensure in appropriate state, required.
Experience:
Three (3) years of surgical experience in a 24/7 acute care facility, required.
Five years of leadership in surgical services experience, preferred.

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities.
Ability to effectively present information verbally and in writing; to effectively respond to questions and requests from stakeholders.
Has knowledge and skills necessary to modify care according to patient’s age.
Has the ability to interpret information to identify each patient’s requirements for care relative to his/her age specific needs.
Thorough knowledge of departmental and institutional policies and procedures.
Considerable knowledge of the organization and management of fiscal and human resources.
Skill in data analysis, organization and presentation.
Ability to manage departmental operations and provide support to users of Perioperative Services (nurses, physicians, patients, etc.).
Ability to work effectively with physicians, administration, other departmental directors, nursing and outside agencies.
Ability to facilitate board and committee meetings for productive and effective activity.
Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements, trends in health care and community service systems.
Strong leadership skills such as creativity, cooperation, independent judgment, ability to delegate, adaptability, perseverance, high energy level and a strong work ethic.
Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of authority.
