Director, Software Engineering - Web Platforms We are seeking a Director of Software Engineering who is passionate about growing and sustaining an innovative technology organization while fostering a culture of engineering and operational excellence. The Director of Software Engineering will be a part of the Core Platforms organization within the Enterprise Platforms Tech (EPT) line of business. This leader will drive the vision and roadmap for some of Capital One’s most critical web products, delivering a reliable, best-in-class experience for the 100M+ unique customers that use our services every month, and creating an intuitive and efficient developer experience for the hundreds of web developers across Capital One that build features on our platforms. The ideal candidate will be a highly-motivated risk or process management professional with excellent process improvement and communication skills. The candidate will be detail-oriented and results focused, and will have a proven record of problem solving and collaborating with others. You will: Lead multiple agile teams and coach and mentor engineers through their career development and performance

Work with Product partners to develop the technology strategy, roadmap and vision for the platforms you own; and deliver application capabilities

Work within and across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions across a full-stack development tools and technologies

Lead complex vendor relationships and ensure well-managed integration of vendor platforms into our broader Capital One ecosystem

Develop and leverage trusted relationships across Architecture, Design, and other Technology leaders to ensure strategic alignment

Bring a passion to stay on top of tech trends, experiment with and learn new technologies, participate in internal & external technology communities

Encourage innovation, implementation of cutting-edge technologies, inclusion, outside-of-the-box thinking, teamwork, self-organization, and diversity

Basic Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree

At least 7 years experience in software engineering or software development

At least 5 years experience in people management

At least 5 years experience developing large-scale web applications in Angular

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s Degree

10+ years of experience in software engineering or software development

5+ years of experience in Agile practices

5+ years of experience leading multiple teams and managers

5+ years of experience building web platforms

5+ years of experience building developer tooling and automation

5+ years of experience working with design systems

5+ years of experience with automated test tooling (. Jest, Cypress, Playwright)

5+ years of experience with observability tools (. New Relic) and web performance optimization

3+ years of experience working with MonoRepo web applications and associated tooling (. Nx)

2+ years of experience with public cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure)

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked. McLean, VA: $263,900 - $301,200 for Director, Software EngineeringRichmond, VA: $239,900 - $273,800 for Director, Software Engineering Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter. This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
