You will manage the engineering teams, manage the tradeoffs, and find the best solution to meet market needs. You will own schedule, cost, performance, and quality. Your teams will find innovative ways to delight customers and adopt new technology to deliver better and faster.The day-to-dayDrive the engineering design, development, maintenance for Viasat’s edge platform software for aviation.Oversee distributed systems architecture, service orchestration, technology choices. Manage application lifecycle and tech debt. Ensure best practices in CI/CD, testing and automation, observability, and infrastructure as code.Mentor and guide engineers and technical leads, develop engineering talent, foster a culture of innovation, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.Ensure effective resource allocation, risk mitigation, and timely delivery within budget. Maintain exacting standards, measured through metrics, for reliability, security, and customer satisfaction.Find emerging trends in cloud-native technologies, Kubernetes, platform engineering, evaluate and incorporate advances that drive platform capability and efficiency.Drive transformation to increase velocity (time to market), quality, and reliability. Boost quality significantly in measurable ways (internal and customer measurements)Collaborate cross-functionally and with the Software Architecture team to set up, and champion engineering standards, evolve deployment and scaling strategies, and accelerate the delivery of high-impact solutions.What you'll need15+ years of experienceDemonstrated successDeveloping, and delivering secure software solutions for complex highly scalable systems for customer venues with hardwareLeading and developing a globally distributed team of 50+ highly capable engineersDelivering at quality, with cost and schedule efficiency with a rapidly evolving roadmapExpertiseDistributed systems, OS, diagnostics and analytics, data, modern programming languages, frameworks, software development, networking, APIsStrong written and oral communication skills to persuade through influenceAnalytical skills, and the ability and willingness to dig into details to get to the right answersWhat will help you on the jobPlease note the salary range listed on this posting is specific to US locations only.Salary range$220,500.00 - $348,500.00 / annually.For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $274,000.00- $411,000.00/ annuallyAt Viasat, we consider many factors when it comes to compensation, including the scope of the position as well as your background and experience. Base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Additional cash or stock incentives may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
